A late 60s early 70s Bachtold brush mower. There is little known history surrounding these machines. Any model from 1978-2001 was recalled for not having a safety switch to turn off the mower blade when idling. DR Trimmer purchased the Bachtold name in the late 1980s.
Let me show you how to start one of these machines.
Hope you enjoy.

I have one of those first DR mowers that looks just like this but has a solid steel brush hog deck with a very thick mower blade. It will cut anything it can bend over. I also have a couple of old brush saws from the late 50's early 60's almost like this but has a round exposed saw blade. It is very effective on one to two inch brush. Always cut on the left side of anything, never on the right side or from the front and it is easy to control. I guess those companies were forced to quit making them because they were deemed to be too dangerous.

It is the operator. People don't take responsibility for their own stupidity any longer and they hide behind their attorneys. Now we have overpriced garbage with a bunch of unnecessary safety mechanisms that fail and render your overpriced machine useless. I mean a cup of hot coffee will burn you if you are clumsy enough to spill it on yourself, but somehow some slicktard got paid a million for something that was their own fault. I think a lot more people than we know rode the short bus to school.

Interesting. Does it go backwards? Can u steer it or does it just go forward? I'm old but never saw one of these before. Great video!!

ItSherilyn Kennedy it is not self propelled backwards only forwards. It is also manual steering. Thanks for asking.

doncampbell9991 hello, are asking if these brush cutters came with Honda engines? Only the Briggs and Stratton were factory but can be converted to a different engine. Thank you for your question.

Partially untrue. I’m fairly certain that Honda engines were never used, but earlier ones were powered with Wisconsin engines. I know because we had one. They didn’t have a recoil starter, you wrapped a rope around the flywheel that had a wooden handle.
