This works up pretty fast and it's very warm
All you need is less than 2 skeins of red heart or any worsted/ara/ weight yarn
and a 9.0mm hook, and a 6.00mm hook

I haven't actually gotten through the whole video yet, but with the fold over part of the cowl, I wonder if doing that with 1 strand would make it easier to fold over? And then maybe secure the folded over part to the main body of the cowl to eliminate having to fight to keep it folded, otherwise?
@rosem5044
@rosem5044 Год назад
If you weigh the skeins before you start and again after you’re finished, you can use math to figure out approx what percentage of the skein you used (if it weighs 40% less, you’ve used 40% of the yards on the skein).

I was a teen in the 60’s. I think this was late 60’s but I may not be remembering it right. During that time I made a skirt, a shawl and hat. It was a lavender color with black trim on shawl and hat. The hat was similar to a beret it had black rosette on one side which had jet button in center. I wore a black turtlenecked long sleeve leotard and tights under it. Also Knee high black chunky heeled boots. It was fun to wear and dance in. Keep making the mystery patterns. Great fun.

I grew up in the 60's. I think the single crotchets instead of the slip stitches are supposed to kinda look like a braid, which was a huge fashion statement in the latter 60's and early 70's. Even another row of single crotchets would give an added 1960 /1970 look. Pattern is accurate for time period

Hi Corrina and everyone, I am in the process of making the 1960s French cap and collar. I'm at the point in the collar-cowel where the short sides need to be made even with the the bobble section. I'm not really sure how to do that. I have it written out so I don't have to keep rewinding the video. But still by reading it I'm not sure what to do. I didn't make it in the round, I made it in 1 flat piece so that you button it up. If anyone has made it that way or can help me finish it up on the side I would be so grateful. It's a gift for my daughter in law ❤ thank you so much. I love watching your channel and your tutorials Corrina. I have made you 1970 poncho and it turned out fantastic, I think lol ❤

Yes ma’am 🔥 I can’t state how much I appreciated this video: Off road and in the buff 🧡 you look great in the hat and cowl. Probably not an AZ outfit but you never know. Love the hat. Now I do utilize cowls especially running my rabbit beagles early in the morning. Winter here before you know it and Farmers Almanac predictions for long cold one. So I REALLY Appreciate you “going off road” and reworking pattern to smarter not harder version. I will be making one with the added rows for warmth. Merlin thought you did excellent work and looked fabulous. Thank you😊

I really love it. But for me, I would make the cowl a little tighter. Living up by the Canadian border, that cowl the way it fits on you would be extremely inadequate. Perhaps the part that you didn't like on the pattern is what keeps this cowl closer to the neck. In fact, up here I make my cowls extra long too so that they bunch up nice and fluffy on my neck. Air gaps up here in -40 F weather is very uncomfortable. And if the wind is blowing, I can pull the cowl up over my lower face and keep my face warm too! Its a beautiful pattern though and I just might have to make me a set!
@kyjennifer
@kyjennifer Год назад
It's so lovely! The entire time you were trying to figure out how to do the edge of the hat, I was saying to the tv, "drop to one strand!" hahaha. Great minds think alike. If I do this project and do make buttons, I think it would be nice to use a different color yarn for them, so they stand out better. I agree that doubling up the cowl seems excessive and like your solution. Also, I have to tell you, your face is so pretty. You don't ever need to feel uncomfortable about not wearing makeup!

you can calculate the amount of yarn used by the weight of the final piece 😉
@ShainaMakesStuff
@ShainaMakesStuff Год назад
Know your starting weight of yarn & starting yards that you have: Multiply (starting yards) by (weight of finished project) Then divide that # by (starting weight of yarn) You will be left with the yards you used for your project 😊 Using #: Start: 6oz/ 315yards End: 3.5oz 315*3.5=1102.5 1102.5/6=183.75 yards used for the project

It looks wonderful! It suits you very well too! I'm not generally a hat wearer except for utility's sake to keep my head from freezing in the snowy winters, but this looks like it would be pretty warm with some nice ventilation on days when it's cold enough for a hat but too warm for a full-coverage hat. Editing to say the 8mm hook worked perfectly. I finished the hat part and decided to not put a border around the bottom. I am working on the cowl tomorrow. ☺️ I tried the 9MM hook and it left huge gaps in the work. I am going to try with an 8mm and see if it’s any better. I love this pattern. I hope I can get it figured out before we go to a Christmas event next week.

Hi, just wanted to say I made one, it is really fast to make and I am a baby crocheyer... As a french person I feel the 1930 influences on this pattern... It is also to note that the puffs gives so mutch structure and substance to an easy to make beginner level item.I used the same brand yarn as in this video red heart worsted weight ...but I used a grey and a purple strand and I suggest you try it it give a uniform two tone varigated feel.
