1960s Snapshots Of People With Cars 

My dad came back from Vietnam in 1969, he bought a brand new 69 GTX 440. When he died in 1985 he gave me the car and told me to take good care of it not hot rod it . I kept it all original I still have it to this day, the only parts that have been changed on it or the wearable parts like belts hoses tune up, starter. I even have the original Rims still on it 67, 281 MI.

Freedom, such a classic concept that deserves a revival.

I'm 67 and work in a restoration shop.l have worked on about 75% of these cars here in California. Now and then we get these old cars with under 50,000 miles, all stock time machines. I'm in shock that there's still these cars coming into our shop with original paint. Thanks!

I passed my drivers test in my dads 1966 Buick Riviera. That thing was a beast! Big V8 with about 8 miles to the gallon. At $.25 a gallon. Loved the 60’s it was a great time to grow up.

My parents had Plymouth's. I guess my favorite memories was sitting in the backseat with my brothers, going anywhere and everywhere. My favorites were beaches and mountains.

I didn’t have my drivers license in the 1960s but my first car ever was a 1969 Plymouth Road Runner. There are some awesome cars made during the 60s. God bless you and your family. Duane.

My first car was a new 1967 Firebird convertible; and the stories I could tell you….wow… the 60’s were awesome!

I have my grandpa's 1967 F100 that he bought brand new, he left it to me when he passed in 1994. I have a picture of him and my grandma standing next to it in their driveway the day he brought it home, it's literally a copy of the couple standing next to the yellow pickup truck at the 2:10 mark.

Ahh what memories..My friend you strike gold again. the 60s 1st gallon of gas 24.9, next day gas war 18.9... 58 cushman eagle , 63 VW bug, 64 Chevelle, 65 draft board, 66 a bad place for soldiers, 68 marriage, see you took me back to some very good places, cars music and life to introduction to adulthood. Hey Rhett, I got my license in 1970. My best friends brother bought a 1967 Roadrunner. That thing was a beast. I loved the 60's cars. When I was in high school most of my friends had 60's cars. Gas was cheap and man, life was great.

Great photos! I was in my pre-teen and early teen years in the 60's. I really didn't take much notice to most of the cars back then. They were just "normal" to me. Now I nearly tear up when I really see what we had then!

I wasn't lucky enough to be old enough to see these beautiful cars everywhere like it used to be, but the best I can do is keep them around and save them. Nowadays these cars are simply time machines. I've fixed up several old cars but I have a 1966 Ford F100 that feels like a time capsule and is a pleasure to drive. There have been times when my modern car fails me and that old pickup resumes daily-driver duty. I even still put it to work a bit despite it's age, because after all, that's what it was built for, not to be some street-rod or something.

My Dad had a really cute red Corvair and I learned to drive it in the late 1960's. I just loved that car! My first car was a light blue Volkswagon Beetle that I also loved. My sister's first car was a yellow Camaro. She later sold it to my brother and people would stop him and ask to buy it because it was so cool. A guy down the street drove a brand new Mustang that he won at the nearby gas station contest. He was very proud driving that car all over the neighborhood. It WAS a great era for cars!! And, the cars had color- Red, blue, yellow, and I even had a friend with a purple car! Today, everything is black, white, or grey with occasional blue or red. We need to get color back in the cars!

We were so proud of our cars. Even if they were old clunkers.😂 . My dad bought our first new car in 1968. Chevy Bel Aire.. for $2000.00. Big money back then.

Awesome.... Olds Toronado in the background at 1:17! My mother had a 1962 Corvair station wagon (red)! Our neighbor had a 1963 Ford Falcon wagon, also in red. My grandma had a massive 1965 Pontiac Bonneville. Before that she had a black 1953 Caddy. Wow. My aunts had a 1950s DeSoto two-tone in light blue/sky blue. Mustangs everywhere... Rode cross-country in my friend's 1963 VW bus (broke down three times). Our neighbor had a 1959 Ford Galaxie with a hard-top that folded hydraulically into the TRUNK to make a convertible! My father had a 1968 Olds Vista Cruiser station wagon. A wealthy friend of our family had a 1957 Thunderbird. Those were the days.

As a car obsessed 8 year old my father agreed to let me help him choose his new car (ordered of course) I wanted a 2 door Impala...silver with black vinyl roof. What i got was champagne with a painted black roof. I was happy with that. Unfortunately with 4 kids,my grandmother and the family dog, the 2 door wasnt the best idea. He never really complained (to me at least) but that was the last 2 door he ever owned. Helped to order (with limited money for options) 5 cars over the next 10 years. Made my childhood. Lucky,Lucky boy

When I was young, we lived in Japan for two years. My dad was in the US Air Force. Anyway, when we returned to the States, my dad surprised us with a new 1966 Buick Wildcat. Silver with a red interior. We headed to SoCal to visit Disneyland for the first time. My parents owned many Buicks after that but that snazzy Wildcat was a favorite.

The 1960s was mostly family years so we went from a 1957 Ford to a 1967 Buick Sport Wagon later on! My dad boasted that he put over 200,000 miles on the latter and it wasn't until 1989 that my parents finally got a Buick sedan!

As a major classic and muscle car enthusiast, this amazing video is right up my alley...no pun intended 😂 Seeing the pics of people and their cars, in all walks of life is just too cool! As a car enthusiasts, I've owned some sweet rides including: 65 Chevy Impala SS, 70 Chevelle SS, 71 Dodge Challenger, 74 Challenger, 79 Chevy Z28, 79 Corvette, 87 IROC Camaro, 87 Corvette Convertible. Deeply regret selling every one of those, some definitely in particular

In 1977 my Dad gave me his 1962 Plymouth Belvedere station wagon with push button transmission. It was black and looked like a hearse, but we can pack a bunch of kids in that wagon....

My dad had a 1963 Galaxy 500 till it was stolen in the 70s. Two men showed up at our house and told my mom that dad had sold them the car, which didn't even run at the time . She tried to get them to wait till dad got home from work, but they said they had already spoken with him. They gave my mom a reasonable amount of cash for the car, and towed it away. My dad knew nothing of this, but the money they provided made for a down payment on a Ford LTD. Life is weird. 🤣

70's teen but my first car was a 67 Pontiac Firebird 326. My friend a couple houses down had a 69 Chevelle SS. Still my favorite era for cars though. If only I knew then what I know now.

It was hard to get a hundred thousand miles out of a car back then. I had a Pontiac that was needing a new engine after only seventy thousand miles. Most people would trade in a car or sell it before they had to spend a lot of money on repair bills.

I received a perfect 1967 Ford Galaxy, 2 door, for my 16th birthday in 1979. I was disappointed until I figured it all out. Then I started collecting 70s muscle car convertibles. I learned to work on them too. A big 350 rocket, anyone can. I even owned a 70 cutlass convertible with a functional hood scoop in the 80s. I am a true muscle car enthusiast, forever.

I came home as an infant in a Robin's egg blue and white 55 Chevy in 1966. In 69 my parents traded it off for a 428 Pontiac Bonneville. It was the first car I ever drove. It was a beast! So much power and very comfortable to drive. It had a trunk that would sleep 6 but wasn't a land yacht like the Catalina. I still have dreams about that car!

I’m 19 right now and my first car was a 1978 mercury cougar, I was friends with another kid who loved old cars and he bought a 1976 Chrysler Cordoba. It was all we had to do at the time we’d help each other fix the cars then drive them wherever we wanted. However my plan was to fix it a bit and sell it for more money and then buy a car I really liked so at the time I wasn’t too fond of the thing. Later on in the year the transmission went out on me and it sat in my driveway for a few months before my parents told me to get rid of it. If I had a better job at the time there’s no doubt I would’ve held on to it. I learned a lot on that thing and it’s probably gonna be one of the nicest cars I’ve ever had. My friend and I were juniors at the time. Fast forward to senior year I got myself a 1985 chevy caprice and my friend got a 1977 Ford Thunderbird because he loved the cougar so much. Everyday he would pick me up at school during lunch time and we’d go down the street to his house to eat and everyone would always be looking at us and I’m pretty sure everyone recognized us as the kids with old cars. After school I would sit on the hood of it while he did laps around the parking lot. Fun times

1965 Ford Mustang is a true classic. In fact, all these cars are true classics made in the USA. Thank you for these memories of my childhood growing up in the 1960s

I had a 1967 Ford Galaxie. I traded it for a 1997 Mustang GT. I don't have that Mustang anymore. I drive a Tahoe now.

Aww the best time to grow up in my opinion. I was born at the end of that era. The only cars I owned in the 1960's were Hot Wheels. But today I own, starting at the bottom, a '33 Dodge Hot Rod, a '57 Imperial, a '61 Catalina, a 68 Charger, a '68 Road Runner, a '69 GTO, a '70 Challenger R/T, a '70 GS 455, a '76 Camaro and a 2 '79 Trans Ams. Love these photos and memories. In 1967 I bought a 1957 VW Beetle for $100 Cdn. I took my driving test in that car. A learners permit was only for a month, then if you passed your practical test you were a full fledged driver. It was a fantastic car and I could go anywhere, even in the bush, but eventually I wanted something with more power. So in 1975 I built the VW of my dreams with the lengthened '58 body on a shortened convertible '62 Buick Wildcat Invicta frame, using a blown '66 L72 427 Rat motor coupled to a built TH400 and a Ford LS 9". Body was heavily modded to include chopped roof, suicide doors, plus a whole lot more. From that time on I got stopped by the cops about once a week. 99% of them only wanted to look the machine over and talk about cars 😆. The 1% (just one cop) sent me for a safety inspection which it passed with flying colors.

Loved my 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner.

My dad bought a brand new 1967 fastback, fire engine red Formula S Barracuda with 383 & 4 speed transmission for $3600. He later gave that to me when I turned 16. I barely missed the 60's. I was born in 71 🤷 The 70's & 80's were a good time to go up too. 👍

As a youngster I rode in my dads 1947 Willys Overland 4 wheel drive. Whe it was my driving time my first car was a 1967 Camaro RS. I kept my later cars purchased.....1966 GTO 389 6 pack 4 gear....1965 Riviera GS 1952 Chevy 3100 with a 409...1966 GTO post 389 6 pack 4 gear .All fun cars.......They where / are enjoyable GM autos.......thanks for your amazing video here...it brought back memorable times...

The good old days no worries!

I remember as a kid that mustangs were all over place. We had a bronze 1962 ford ranch wagon with the little steer heads on the seats. We used to go for Sunday drives for no reason. Couldn't afford the $ 5 gas today.

... i really enjoyed these pics of some fantastic '60s cars. i started to drive in the early '70s and my first car was a '63 Impala followed closely by a '64 Olds Jetstar 88. i am, however, very disappointed that my favorite car, the Corvette, was not featured even once in this viedo. i find that unbelievable and unforgivable.

I was a little girl in the 60’s and my mom had a 1967 light yellow thunderbird. My dad drove a gold El Camino. My grandparents sold their Oldsmobile in 1967 and bought a white Camaro with red interior. My great grandmother had a 1965 metallic light blue mustang.

In the '60s my mom's car was a 68 Plymouth Roadrunner. She's 89 years old now and still a Gearhead! LOL got to love Mom!

This was such a wonderful different time. My parents bought a new PONTIAC BONNEVILLE in 1959. Then, in 1964, a new MERCURY PARKLANE, AND IN 1972, a new PONTIAC LeMANS. In 1968, when I was 23, I purchased my first new car, a new BUICK GS400 CONVERTABLE. There were a lot of great cars and great memories.

Love the video. I was born in 1968 and proud of it. This was around the peak of great cars muscle car performance etc. I own a 2door 69Chrysler Newport with 82000.miles on it bought it off the original owner 383v8 love it. Cheers.

My first car was a 62 belair bubble top, I put a 427 425 hp in it with a good four speed. It was black with red interior. That car was bad ass

IMHO I think the 1967 model year offered some the best styling from all the domestic manufactures to the models that came from Europe as well ! I drove in the 70's used vehicles from the 60's Chevrolet , & Pontiac's , & in the mid 80's I started buy my favorite cars from the 60's & restore them ! & That was the Chevrolet Corvair ! & I still own 3 of them . In the 60s I had a 62 Chevy impala and a 66 mustang gt and a 67 tempest sprint and a 69 Buick wildcat.

Since I was born in 48 my dad had 50s cars until 1961. His last American car was a 70 Cougar XR7 with a 351 Cleveland, in the gas crisis he got a Honda.

Thanks for the great video, and the trip down memory lane. My dad was a house painter, and during my child hood he had a 49, and two 51 chevy sedans, he carried his extension ladders tied to the top, and step ladders in the trunk, until in about 78 or 79, he finally got a 64 chevy truck. I hope to one day own a 51 chevy. My other two favorites are the unibody ford truck, like the one in the video, and a 64 Falcon, all with the inline six.

I had a 66 Olds Cutlass but as soon as I found a 67 Pontiac GTO the Cutlass was gone. I wrecked the GTO and bought a 68 Pontiac 400 Firebird Convert 4 speed that I still have today. Needless to say, I had lots of girl friends with one of the hottest cars in town. Still miss my 67 GTO.

My opinion 1956 to 1969 was the best era for cars ever. I loved my 1967 Firebird.

My first car was a 1964 Bel-Air, we had a Mercury, a 57 DeSoto, 68 Chevy Truck and some other's here and there 😏😉. I really enjoyed my Bel-Air it was fun to drive. It was my graduation present from Mom and Dad 💕 Red with a White Top

Found a picture of the family car a 1960 blue Buick LeSabre . I was born in 61 don’t remember the car , but i know we were Buick people when I was growing up.

My uncle used to own a black volkswagen beetle with a white soft top ( don't know if it was retractable). I still remember when as a kid he took me and my brother to make some trips around. I loved the engine sound

Truly a great time to grow up! Dad had a pink/white 1959 Ford Customline 500. I loved driving that but then he got a 1964 Pontiac Laurentian two tone green - man, I loved that car. When I got behind the wheel, I felt like a million bucks and it was a real chick magnet!

Still HAVE my 1960's car. Parents purchased a new 1960 Edsel in November 1959 so my mother would have a vehicle to drive me in the kindergarten carpool. That Edsel was my family's main car into 1967, when a 67 Dodge Dart was purchased, and it became my father's take it to work beater. In 1970 I turned 16, and the number one thing I wanted for my 16th birthday was that old Edsel. So my father bought a 1970 Nova as the family car, the Dart became his go-to-work car, and the Edsel became my high school ride. Though it is no longer my daily driver, I still have that Edsel. Runs just fine, and is going on 400,000 miles now.

This was a bit before my time but in the late 70's my dad had a 1964 VW square back with rusted floor boards and no seat belts. It's what us kids learned to drive on. I kinda miss seeing the road go by under my feet....

Remember riding in Grandpa's maroon '65 Impala with a 327. When he needed gas, he would say, "Hop in. We're going to visit Ethyl!" We went to the 76 gas station, talked fishing with the full-service attendant and left with a handful of green stamps. Sometimes I'd get one of those orange foam balls for the antenna.

Our first new car was a 1963 Plymouth Savoy slant 6 sedan with full wheel discs, radio, pushbutton transmission; red with red and white interior. I was 17.

In '62, my parents bought a new Chevrolet Bel Air station wagon. In '71, my parents bought a new Chevrolet Kingswood station wagon. For me it was station wagons, while I was growing up. 🙂

My mom owned a 1961 Plymouth; later, my parents owned a 1967 Ford Galaxy, 67 Pontiac Catalina, 1964 Ford Wagon, 1965 Chrysler Newport and 1968 Plymouth Fury.

dad went from nice big cadillacs in the 60s to a gremlin in the 70s and we lived in the northeast with roads full of giant potholes that would literally rattle your bones.It was like riding in an army jeep.
