0:13 I like how there are people casually strolling on the edge of the circuit with the back turned to the incoming cars, something you you're not even supposed to do on the hard shoulder of a motorway these days.

Beautiful upload, pure gold. Not the NZGP on the Ardmore airfield (obviously) in the first part, but the Dunedin Road Race on the beautiful natural road course, January 28th 1961. Winner was Denny Hulme in a 2.5 Cooper-Climax, in front of Pat Hoare (3.0 Ferrari) and Angus Hyslop (2.0 Cooper-Climax).

£150? That was all? I mean I've had the utmost respect for these racing pioneers. Now, knowing these guys were paid sub-par paychecks to do it only adds to the respect. Great footage.

To be fair, its not exactly a small amount either. Thats about £3.5k now, I'd think that would still be quite a bit back then.

I’m curious, how many front-engined F1 cars were still used in F1 races at this time? By contrast, all but one car in the U.S. 1961 Indy 500 were front-engined “roadsters”, and the single rear-engined car in that race was a Cooper chassis raced by F1 World Driving Champion Jack Brabham, finishing 9th. Also that one Cooper was the first pretty much modern rear-engined car to compete in the Indy 500 (early versions appeared in ‘39-41), and it began the then controversial “rear-engined revolution” at Indy.
