It sounds like SCHO-KA-KOLA which is caffeinated chocolate with kola nut. It comes in a round tin can and used to be pretty popular in Germany when I was a kid. I wasn't allowed to eat it because of the caffeine, though.

Michael I dont know if it really is that exact choclate, but the closest thing probably is "Scho-Ka-Kola". Choclate with about 50& cocoa, a bit of fruit and coffee.

After watching a few of these videos, it really looks like the German stuff was never sealed up all that well, yet it holds up great. The US stuff being all in sealed tin cans, this thing just sealed with a sticker... Guess there is something to that German engineering thing after all.

You can still buy the chocolate. It's called Scho - Ka - Kola and comes in a round tin. Red for dark chocolate, blue for milk chocolate. Look it up, they've got an internet page. Greetings from Germany

sarotti does make sho-ka-kola. it used to be owned by a different company but around the late 60s it transfered ownership to sarotti. so, its no longer the same company that made the choholate for the wehrmacht

Peak of the Cold war and at the front....... These guys had a serious concern,you can see by how well preserved this is how well fought out the packaging was for its time especially. This is probably one of the most fascinating rations I've seen technology wise. It was really meant to be very long term and bad environment freindly

Its meant to be carried around all day, unpacked and repacked all the time. Only to be used if you lose contact with the field kitchen. Thats why its so overbuilt compared to modern mres that are usually consumed shortly after being issued. I really like its design, very slick and hard packaging so that it can be jammed down in your pack without much care.

Apparently there are still a few places that make Chocolate Cola Bars but only the people that have eaten these rations would ever be able to compare the taste. I'd love to see you do something like that Steve. Were you try to find modern or current day equivalents in taste to some of the more delicious things you've enjoyed in these aged rations. Maybe a video of you eating the modern version and commenting on how you feel its similar or different to a ration item.

Scho-Ka-Kola is still sold commercially, and has been since 1936. I still remember surviving on that and the MRE peanut butter they gave us in the FDF. I assume this is the same stuff in the video since it's been in German military use for ages, but that the form is different for the survival ration (normally they come in round 'disks', and are separated into wedges). The caffeinated chocolate is really addictive. Not sure you can get them in North America, but worst case scenario you can just ship them over.

Correct, the Finnish Defense Forces. Note that I have never stumbled upon the product included in Finnish MREs, but it was an extremely popular product to carry with you since it's sold commercially in Finland. I just looked it up and you can get the product from Amazon US, but the tins are about three times as expensive as in Europe (original price ~3€). I suppose if you're desperate for a taste it might be worth it.

Believe it or not a lot of people in the states are bilingual cause they have a parent or grandparent who is an immigrant.My grandparents are from south africa and I know a sufficient amount of affrikans and I never been there lol. and my nephew knows spanish and he is only 3 cause his paternal grandmother and grandfather do not speak english and he hears them talk all the time cause they baby sit him. So maybe steve has german grandparents or one german parent

***** Did they baby sit you all the time as a kid, like were you submerged in hearing it cause if you are hearing your parents speak greek all the time cause your grandparents do not speak english then you are highly sub septuple to picking it up, especially when u are a little kid and your language skills are developing. I heard affrikans all the time from my grandparents and dad so I understand and speak a lot of it. I wish I could read/spell in it tho. Its not easy to do and the language itself is a 'fast' talking language with a lot of word having to be pronounced exactly in the inundation it is said in with the same hold on certain letters or it literally sounds like jibberish in native affrikans.
