Here is a Rare machine for you. My newest addition to my collection. 1961 Zenith Console Stereo. This one has the Reverberation unit in it. What also makes this a rare machine is the changer. This is what i call a cross over. This for 61 has the whats to come Micro-Touch 2g Style changer, But notice it has the Cobramatic still. This is a rare changer because it was showing whats to come for 62. This is the same as the other i have the full Micro-Touch 2g changer in my other Zentih. This one is also belt driven very quiet. You never see this changer ever. Its either the full micro touch or the Cobra-matic, but not the Cross over one. This also has Zenith reverberation sound as well. I have not restored this unit yet, it is all original. I will end up recapping the amps this fall and the preamp. But all original it sounds great. Lots of power. The original price of 495.95 tag was still inside to. All i did was i pulled the changer oiled cleaned it, I also pulled the preamp and cleaned the pots thats all i did. The needle is new. Enjoy

We had a stereo like that and I was a kid and unaware of how nice it was. Now after seeing more modern turntables, speakers, and amplifiers I know how much nicer it was. I wish we still had our old stereo.

My parents had a 1960 Westinghouse console stereo. Italian provincial, mahogany. The loudness control (not volume) went from 0 to 10. We never played it more than 5.5, and even then it still made the china in the cabinet rattle and the pictures on the wall dance.

Wow, almost 5 hundred for that way back in '61. That's huge in today's dollars. On par with the price of the modern day McIntosh audio components. Like you said, you always have to pay for quality. Great find.

We had exactly the same Zenith. It was called Zenith Cordoba and found its way to the Phil Is via USS PRES WILSON. To date, I regret selling that unit.

Thanks for posting this! My friend's parents down the street from me had one of these when I was a kid in the mid 60's. I loved the sound of it! I was always amazed by that built-in 45 RPM adapter! Brings back fond memories of the summer of 1966, listening to this console for hours and hours playing stack-after stack of the latest 45s.

WOW... I have this album playing. I love it. It was this album that made me appreciate Si Zentner. Since finding this album along my searches, I've bought most of the Si Zentner stuff. The second song in the video, "Fly Me To The Moon", is the Zentner song. Classic.

I love these vids with the mid-century modern console stereos! I've been watching tons of them in the hopes of seeing the unit we had in our house when I was a little kid and this is the one that comes closest: I don't believe ours had reverb, or that extend stereo switch, and when you opened it, the radio dial and control panel which looked nearly identical to this one, were down lower, flush with the platform the turntable sat on. Also, the middle two sections of grill cloth on yours was a single wooden panel with an inlaid design on ours, otherwise, pretty much the same unit. Same grill cloth, same dimensions, same flip up 45 adapter and phono arm. I'm thinking my parents may have gotten it around '61, but I'm guessing one or two years later. And now I have a rough idea of what they paid for it! Nothing ever sounded better!

How wonderful!!!! I loved this beautiful tube cabinet !! how beautiful HI-FI! I loved the music too, and on the other hand, I noticed the beautiful sound quality .. look! this crystal must be from the system of two copper wire fields, the primary and the secondary! , or it could be the RCA crystal ... one of the best, but because it is a tube sound, of course the sound power is perfect! of sound, and I think it is wonderful !!!

Great tubes Zenith sound. The reberveration unit may be as a double (stereo) spring reberb like a The Fisher SpaceExpander and so on. Anyway looks and sound like new. You're a lucky man. Zenith always has been a brand with hight quality products designed and craft-handwired circuits with tubes all made in USA. "Commited to excelence" like they sayd.... Congratulations.

Most people don't realize it, but "Voice of Music" made some very high end turntables. Most people just know them from their low end models because those went into of the lower end sets that most people bought. I've never been able to verify where these belt driven turntables in the very high end Zeniths originated, but I suspect they were made for Zenith by VM. And yes, the difference between tube amps and modern ones is just like the difference between LPs and digital storage. You know it sounds better, but you cannot quite verbalize why. These suckers pulled a LOT of amps, though.

Also, what input would I use? I am currently utilizing the Aux/Tape input for the CD player and have a cassette in the Tape monitor input!

You have got some of the best consoles. I love seeing the items you get. I have watched many of your videos with the Zeniths and Motorola units. I can't believe the awesome items that fall into your lap in such great condition and for such great prices. I have Zenith two Zenith consoles. One is from about '66 witch works fine and is solid state. The other is one of the first stereo consoles with the older, smaller Cobra head. My label reads Zenith Extended Sound. It is a tube unit. It does need work, recaps, etc. I would love to find someone to bring the unit back to life. It has the 10" woofers and the horns for high frequency/mid range. Any help would be appreciated. I am in New Jersey.

Did this console have the 1961 Zenith FM Stereo circuitry? The FCC approved the Zenith Multiplex FM Stereo system as the US FM Stereo broadcast standard on March 1, 1961. Wondering if this console had the stereo/mono dual circuit.

This console predates FM stereo multiplex. note the separate AM and FM tuners. These consoles of the 1960s were considered "brown goods" compared to component hi fi. The units were not "brown goods for nothing. They deserved it. Save for restoration they were well made and could perform for many years to come.

Vacuum tubes or solid state? ... Bright sounding like early solid state. Modern stylus or original? Seems like it's playing LP at correct speed. Are speakers full range with whizzer cone or ... woofer/tweeter with crossover.

Hi I have a 1964 Zenith Monet console stereo everything works except the light on the tuner. The burned out bulb is marked H 1847 which is old has a small nipple on the bottom of the bulb. I am looking for the old style bulbs all the new 1847 bulbs do not make contact because the is no nipple/pen on the bottom. Do you know where I can find those bulbs I have tried radio shack, the light bulb depot, and all auto parts stores they only have the new ones with the conductor on the bottom. If you tell me where to look I would be very grateful. Thanks Jonathan

50 to 150 depending on the model some fisher units can go to 250 to 350 but don't waste your time looking on ebay all of those prices are not reality based in fact 90% of the "buy it nows" are insane and no one pays those prices..yet they list em and list list the same over priced units over and over again..pure stupidity I guess.
