This film in black and white brings us wonderful shots from Budapest in 1963. We digitized and slightly optimized it as the second part of a fan trip to the friendly international football match between Hungary and Austria. The match took place on October 27, 1963 at 2 p.m. CET in the Nep Stadium and ended 2-1 to the hosts. The day and the hours before the game, the Austrian football tourists spent a foray through the capital of what was then communist Hungary.
The world-famous Chain Bridge (built 1839 - 1849) over the Danube can be seen as well as the legendary Cafe Hungaria (today Cafe New York) - a magnificent coffee house from the early days in Budapest, built in the last decade of 19th century. Atmospheric shots of the Budapest trams, buses and cars of that time make the film a visual journey into the communist past. It would take another 26 years until the opening between East and West and the fall of the Iron Curtain.

Herrliche Aufnahmen aus dem Budapest des Jahres 1963 bringt uns dieser Film in schwarz-weiß. Wir haben ihn als zweiten Teil einer Schlachtenbummlerfahrt zum freundschaftlichen Fußball-Länderspiel Ungarn gegen Österreich digitalisiert und leicht optimiert. Das Match fand am 27. Oktober 1963 um 14.00 Uhr MEZ im Nepstadion statt und ging mit 2:1 an die Gastgeber. Den Vortag und die Stunden vor dem Spiel verbrachten die österreichischen Fußballtouristen mit einem Streifzug durch die Hauptstadt des damals kommunistischen Ungarns.
Die weltberühmte Kettenbrücke (erbaut 1839 bis 1849) über die Donau ist hier ebenso zu sehen wie das legendäre Cafe Hungaria (heute Cafe New York) - ein prunkvolles Kaffeehaus aus der Gründerzeit in Budapest, errichtet im letzten Jahrzehnt des 19. Jahrhunderts. Stimmungsvolle Aufnahmen von den Budapester Straßenbahnen, Bussen und Autos der damaligen Zeit machen den Film zu einer visuellen Reise in die kommunistische Vergangenheit. Bis zur Öffnung zwischen Ost und West und zum Fall des Eisernen Vorhangs sollte es noch 26 Jahre dauern.
