Ralph Nader's Unsafe at any Speed, was a blessing and a curse for these cars. Granted the early cars (1960-64) had some rear handling problems but so did the Germans. I like the later 65-69 models and believe these are great cars being very economical to operate. This 1963 is a very nice early example.
I had friends that owned them, one was a Monza Spyder with a turbo and the other was not. They both were a blast to drive, reminded me alot of a large go cart. The Spyder would rip but the biggest problem with both of them was they were light in the front end and anything above 80 mph they got to be a handful especially in crosswinds or around larger vehicles. That one is a nice example and I like the color. As always Jeff take care my friend.
In 1968, after my wife totaled our TR-3A, the body shop lender car to us was a red one like this one. Isn't the shifter handle on the dash on the right. I did my best to put it through the sports car pace. I actually remember having a good time with it.
PS as I cecall it is a German engine they made back in the days 20 or 30, it Was called a boxer engine in Europe, air cooleed i remember a truck called magirius it had a huge 8 cyl boxer engine, look like tank tiger 🐯, 20 ton
