You don't have to be a Chevy guy or Dodge or Ford to love this stuff,it was amazing how many different cars and trucks GM had back in those days, all the different divisions,we were a strong nation back then.
I'm not a trucker or, even a 'truck guy.' I, just, a)love cars & trucks, generally and, b)enjoy learning, about both. Just want to add: I think the '64 and, the '65 had the best-looking nose, ever. Well, anyway, it's my favourite. The '57 is a close second. Thank-you, aerotruk63, for posting. Enjoyed this, immensely!
I have a 1959 GMC 1/2 ton I inherited from my Grandad in 1999 when he passed away..it's got a 292 straight six with a 2 barrel rochester carb. I've been offered $25,000 cash for it..NOT 4 SALE...
I know the feeling. I have a 59 Chevy 1 ton panel truck that is my daily driver that I have personally owned since 1985 and has been in the family since 1971. It's my daily driver. I've turned down $30,000 for it. Like your truck, it's not for sale.
In the early 60's we used to run 2 tilt 80's from morning til after dark climbing the grades over bear mts. along the over-reach and also up the steady rise heading out of the long end haul road south of windswept ridge way before the interstate was even started. They would always make it over papa bear but sometimes when we had a big load on her and it was real hot out you could hear the engine getting hotter and hotter pings and pops with metal expanding and steam swelling up the hoses until they were ready to burst. Always kept plenty of extra gear oil and grease on the trucks cause you'd have to grease and top 'em off before you headed back from your run. The big hassle back then was tires, I used to think they called em tires cause you sure were tired after fighting the wheel all day, you always had to have both hands and arms on the wheel to keep em on the road, it was a very physical job back then, now any candy ass can drive a truck but they ain't got a clue about truckin.
orange70383 yeah but modern truckers are just as tough as the guys back then- there are new regulations- you guys were the candy asses when it came to "regs" shit- you didn't even have to keep a valid LOG- uou didnt have the state police assholes breathing down your neck pulling you over for no valid reason other than being an impotent prick with the old lady at home-dont knock anyone else without knowing your shit- I drove through bear Mountain area -also the Adirondacks- just as hard were my tines as yours- no power steering- blowouts and a lot of other horrors i wont and in some cases CANNOT mention- nah- by the way you're harping you sound like the candy striper
orange70383 yeah I know what you're talking about, after 8 years of driving around 2 1/2 tons army trucks, as of then as now it's called strong arm steering, with the latest model mph air conditioning (windows down) I have a 1960 Ford F100 4×4 I get up on those logging roads up in Oregon using those granny low gears. Brings back a lot of good memories driving those 2 1/2 ton long bed, army trucks.
When I was young I worked for a sheet metal company and they had a C60 80 model 350 2 barrel Manuel steering and brakes 2 speed rear.but I was young and I didn't have drive far to jobs.
@@scottprendergast2680 not really drivers are so lazy now day's that they piss in bottles and wear sweats and velcros . The drivers back then had class and worked hard and could fix their own trucks in the parking lot.
Sounds like some great memories from a simpler time in life. My uncle always seemed to share stories like this. Tried and true, most of all,,legendary. Good stuff.
Funny to think of the I6 in big trucks. But there's a Advance Series and an Apache series farm trucks with 2 speed rears and thriftmaster 6 in the forest behind my folks home. Rated hp was low 100s and GVW on door 20 something from what I remember. 10+ tons with a 1bbl carb i6. I suppose folks weren't in a hurry back then. Helps that my folks are in a flat area but still I'm sure these were 45mph trucks
Great looking trucks. Those are 62 pickup headlight bezels. I always liked the wraparound windshield. The type “W” 409 . That tandem axle dump truck just looks perfect.
I love how these old videos were so precise about some details to add fluff length to their promo videos. Frame is 93/1000ths of an inch thicker! Although I would have probably just said "About 10% thicke". Just hard for normal people to equate that thickness to performance anyway. Cool video though.
Just amazing stuff these old Heavy truck line up were in there Day. The special GAS engines My SeaGrave Restoration project has the Spicer 5 speed. The power is a 8-71 Detroit. I can get her up to RPMs fast. Shifter watching RED pointer on tack. And she goes in gear right on the money. Just purrs along in 5th, gear at highway speeds.
It's amazing how, reluctant, I guess? they were with dual braking systems. Yeah, we got one, but it's for school buses only and you have to special order it.
So many positive responses for the mid 60’s look but not as many people like the current HD trucks which are the closest look we have had to these old trucks. I love the current HDs but I’m biased as I have one.
Every time I hear "Spicer transmission" I shudder and curl up in a ball. The 7spd International I used to drive was junk. Double clutch all day, like shifting through a box of old wrenches. We called it the "Wonder Stick"
I have an unrestored, refrigerated 1963 chevy milk truck that is in the process of being converted over to a draft beer truck. I still don't quite know what model it is. Can anyone help?
And nowadays Chevy people only care about air conditioned seats and how good it looks in the church parking lot. I just going to mention this as well Ford 300.
Chevrolet building a better way to serve the USA and it never forgets its a tuff truck.old chevy t.v. ad. We beat Ford ,dodge, international and Studebaker
Yeah Chevy had better ads Ford build a better truck I can prove that the reminding you word has the number one selling truck ever I don't even think they classify it as a truck the number one selling vehicle.
what does that fat piece of shit have to do with this commercial? It doesn't matter what you video I watch there is always some dumb piece of shit Republican putting Mega all over the place. it seems just a way for people to say white power without getting shit thrown their way. Got to let you know that Bernie Sanders is a head right now.
