I bought this car in 1999 at a local estate sale where it had been abandoned in a backyard for 20 plus years. The 327 was locked up so this was my FIRST revival as a 14 year old punk! Well it's been neglected for the past few years so lets address some of those issues and fix a few of my screwups from 20 plus years ago. This car is NOT FOR SALE! Well, I mean, if someone gave me $327,300 for it in cold hard cash I'd probably let it go... Maybe... As always, thanks for watching!

Isn't it great to take that walk down memory lane with your old cars and trucks from your youth and discover temporary fixes that became permanent fixes! "What was I thinking when I did that" LOL! Oh the joys of youth!

@CactusJack1021
@CactusJack1021 2 года назад
@@fayeharmon3095 I don't remember for sure, but it seems possible to me. At that time Chevy had a lot of v8 engine choices which (as Mortske often points out) pretty much all would interchange. I am pretty sure the 64 year was the last for the 409, and even if not, it could easily have been swapped in.

My little brother got a ticket when he was about 17 years old for 125 in a 25 mph speed zone. That happened in a 1962 Impala with a 409. They were some wild cars!

The plastic pins with the oil pan gasket is for when the engine is still in the car and you have to put the pan on it will hold the gasket in place and than hold the pan up than you can start bolts. I just used one of these on my ford 289 when I had to drop the oil pan. It made the job so much easier. Nice video good to see you have your old ride, I have my 68 Mustang that I picked up in 89. My thoughts exactly. You could swap out the Power glide for a 200 R4. That way you'd get 3rd gear plus overdrive for good fuel economy. A vacuum solenoid system will kick the O/D in and out without the need for an ECM.

I Thoroughly enjoyed this video . I'm 67 and at 18 I bought a 1963 Impala Sport Coupe that had 62,000 miles on it for $450 dollars . It was a 283 , 2 barrel with a powerglide trans and I made it look and run like it was new . I loved that car and your video tonight took me back , vividly , to those days . Even though yours is a '64 Wagon , it has the same red interior that my '63 had as well as the padded dash and mine even had the stainless protector around the filler door like your '64 . Those wind out vent windows are a pleasure as well. Your work on this car showed the import that this one holds for you. The little squeaks and ticks and details about it's handling that you noticed and spoke about were a departure from your usual commentary and is a genuine sign , in my mind and heart that this car is very special to you . If you were to go the whole nine yards on any one of the cars you have owned , it is this one. It is in fine enough condition that it would be a very doable and worthwhile endeavor to do your own style and level of restoration on it , including paint. The pleated styling of the upholstery with the stainless buttons on the upper part of the seats and the door panels are a beautiful styling feature . The engine really sounds a runs great. It would be something very special to do this one up for yourself. It is a very deserving car and you are very deserving guy to have this very valuable and sentimental classic to cruise around in 10, 20,30,40 years from now. I really wish I still had my '63 . I don't know how what I've said sounds to you , however , I couldn't be more sincere in saying this to you. Great video about a very special car , Mortske !!!

For a cheap set up for compressor I used one out of a Buick Lesabre air ride system then added a gauge in the cab with a switch to turn the compressor of and on . To be able to adjust the pressure going down the road I used a air ride seat valve on a bracket under the dash . I'm able to turn the switch on to start the compressor look at the gauge and add or subtract air as needed . I use mine for towing with my F150 but this is a cheap way to get what you need .

I was going to suggest a Roadmaster air system and ditch the level arm Gizmo for a switch, but the prospects of a 64 with just an excellent suspension system would really be great. They handle like the Queen Mary (the ship) stock suspended.

Definitely worth a part DEUX! I can take or leave the air ride, but black steelies would be killer. The 327 is also killer (sounds GREAT!), and great choice going back to points. Front seats deserve a Mexican blanket seat cover kit with a dominant red color scheme - solves your seat cover problem on the cheap. Agreed with someone else - roof rack's gotta get back on. Yes, I would love a part two on this bad-boy - big fan of the '64's as a station wagon; they have such damn great look down the road. Thanks for a great video!

I had been over seas for a while and when I got home to Moffat Field California my wife and I were transferred to Memphis. She had been saving money while I was gone and Surprised me with a very solid 1966 2 door hard top impala with a 283 and 3 speed. It was a totally original one owner car. Of course to my father’s horror I immediately bought a 350, hopped it up and stuffed it in, in place of the 283. I hand ported the heads, ground off the Edelbrock name and painted the aluminum intake Chevy orange and put 283 stickers on the valve covers and had a lot of fun with people who didn’t know any better. That was a beautiful car. It was maroon with black interior and didn’t have a scratch on it. Every time you bring in one of these Chevys I remember that car. I guess that’s why I keep watching your show.

This has been the wildest ride down memory lane in a long while. First that 64' SW, I grew up riding in wagons. Dad bought his first Chevy wagon in 57 when the family of boys got to wild for a sedan and we traveled the whole country every summer. In those days you collected decals from every state and park. Then he traded it in for 61', then a 64', then a 67' and last a 70'. All were 3 on the tree except the 70'. Then my first engine build in the 60's...a 283 bored 60 over, fuel injection solid liter cam ( a real PETA), milled powerpack heads, and a carter AFB, all put in multiple 55' chevies. Watching you brought back all the screw ups a teenager would make. Had that car up on the lift every day fixing something...started working in the shop when about 14...washing parts and pumping gas. Had gas wars then and sold some piss guaranteed to ping for 13 cents a gallon. Now my addiction is for square body Suburbans...have 6 so far...wonder how that happened. That 64 of yours deserves some real TLC and a road trip. GREAT VIDEO...Thanks

I subscribed to this channel because I want to watch quality content, not a bunch of crap. This video is another example of why I've never regretted the decision. In other news, rumor has it that Duff can't leave the state until he gets a bath because North Dakota doesn't want to risk losing that much dirt. Thank you for your time.

The snap-ups are for when you're doing the oil pan in the vehicle from underneath. They hold the gasket in place and you can push the pan on over them and it holds it in place too. Awesome little invention!! 🙌🏻 They make aligning everything a "Snap" 🤣🤦🏼‍♂️ Almost as good as an assistant with thumbs! 👍🏻🐾🐶

Reminds me of the pumpkin orange 1977 Olds Vista Cruiser I had 20 years ago. I would give anything in the world to have that car back today. I think those old muscle station wagons are some of the coolest rides out there. I'm envious and happy for you that you had the means to hang on to yours!! Thanks for the great content, Mort!!

That car is awesome. Good on ya for leaving it that way. There are plenty of wagons in junk yards to "fix up". My vote is for steel reverse painted cream with baby moons and red line radials...but, there are so many ways to go.

Not my favourite year, but that drive-train! Station/Estate wagons rock. I learned to parallel park in a '65, and taught my (ex) wife how to do the same in my rusty '74 Caprice droptop. She ALWAYS slammed those HUGE doors, which she could have easily closed with her pinky finger. As she was from a wealthy family, and "Harpo" was kinda rusty, she hadn't much respect for it, until I used it to teach her how to drive. Witnessing my very spoiled, former model wife learning to drive in that old boat, in downtown Vancouver's horrific traffic, was an experience. Was always a Mopar, Saab and BMW guy, but those old Chevys have a warm spot in my heart.

Great content, as always. The wagon is screaming for a make-over. Nothing wild. Interior, rust repair, wheels & tires (chrome reverse with baby moons?), exhaust. You know what it needs. Just a nice driver. My earliest car memories are from road trips to grandma's house in our '65 Impala wagon. White with a blue interior. Spent a lot of hours sleeping in the way-back on the drives from Texas to Illinois.

Keep all original and keep the wheels on maybe go back with stock suspension but any video you make on this wagon I'll be watching for sure. To me this is the best video so far with the best car, I'm in the hunt for one to restore. Keep up the awesome work and the commentary is the best and hilarious especially talking to Duff the looks he gives you is killer 😄 🤣
