1964 Chrysler Imperial is not a Chrysler?
Yup not a Chrysler. Chrysler was trying to make a stand alone brand to compete with Lincoln and Cadillac. So the Imperial was to be it's own brand.
So is this car as good as the competition, like Lincoln or Cadillac? Some say it's even better. No expense was spared in the construction of this car.
It's large, heavy, quiet and comfortable. It has all power feature you could imagine.
I was an exclusive automobile. These car were built for specific customers IE: Ordered from the factory. Each car was built for a specific client. This car was made for Florence Henderson.
It's one of 922 Crown Convertibles made in 1964. The cost of a base model is almost 6000.00 dollars. That's crazy money in 1964 when an average car cost around 2500.00 dollars.
Why so expensive. In this veideo I'll show you why. Give you a brief history. Show you all the cool facts and features of the car.
See what power and prestige in America was all about in the 1960's when the Big Three ruled supreme.
Thank you for tuning in.

Want to have your mind blown? 🤯 this vehicle's MSRP was 6k in 64, which is roughly 59k in today's money. Now look at what you got in 1964 for 60k. A hand build vehicle, built specifically for you, to your specifications, with a laundry list of options... VS a run of the mill BMW 4 series, or a pick up truck. With a handful of options, many that are forced on you as a package. And hopefully, those features are not locked away behind a subscription pay wall. Auto industry really went to hell in a hand bracket.

The 1966 Imperial shared the same body, and of course, that included the same wrap-around windscreen. The 1967 Imperial featured the next generation windscreen.

@@troykane Troy, glad to help! Chrysler registered Imperial as a separate marque from 1955-1975. Before and after that period, Imperial was a higher-trim New Yorker. 1964 was the last year of the pushbutton Torque Flight transmission all across the Mopar line. The buttons first appeared in 1956. 1955 Mopar models had this weird little lever sticking straight out of the dash.

I had a 1964 Imperial Crown 4 door. I loved that car. I’ve never had a car that drove as well. I’ve owned two Rolls Royce. This car tops them all. I have a 1970 Oldsmobile 98 convertible now. I want an Imperial convertible but I haven’t found one that I could afford at the time I found it.

Considering minimum wage in 1964 was $1.25 an hour, $6,000 was small fortune. Imperial put Cadillac and Lincoln to shame.

Unfortunately Chryslers attempt to compete with Lincoln, Cadillac (and what was left of Packard in 1955) never quite pushed it to the top in spite of being (as advertising called it) the INCOMPARABLE Imperial. Truly love these LAND YACHTS, a monument to OTT excessive American chromed luxury of the time! Unfortunately, a time we will NEVER see again. For me, the 61 LeBaron was the pinnacle, with limo like roof and fins actually an inch or two higher than fabled 59 Cadillac. Engels 64 and up were also beautiful, but not quite as spectacular as Exners fabulous finned fantasies. Sad to see what little remains of Chrysler and all autos.. For me the last REAL Chrysler was 80s RWD Fifth Avenues.

In my opinion, there was no better interior design than the 1964 imperial, simply the best, the attention to detail and craftsmanship was second to none; even Cadillac could not match it , Lincoln closer. Cadillac was a common example of affluence, while Imperial represented extraordinary, taste class, and refinement!

Trying to be a Mopar supporter is like being a republican in south Chicago and all the criticism and lies you get from the Buick and Chevy guys. Funny thing it was so Chrysler who saved Buick. They hired him in 1915 cause sales were down to 60,000 a year. In two years he had straightened Buick out and got sales to 600,000. They can't stand that.

This would be the last year for the push button transmission selector. Starting in the model year 1965, Chrysler began equipping their cars with shifter selectors, same as their competition. Driver education people was active for identical automatic transy selector controls on all cars.

@moesizlac2596
@moesizlac2596 Год назад
@@bk14nyc "Edsel" is an actual name, of an actual person. "Imperial" is more adjective than noun. It is too generic. Brands have identities that people identify with. The word "Imperial" has many negative and impersonal connotations. And it was a model before Chrysler tried to make people believe it was more special. The cars are pretty special, but the branding was empty headed with only legal papers filed. It had no dealer network, it had nothing separate from Chrysler. Nobody believed it then and it is not worth getting defensive about now. Chrysler gave up their charade, so should anyone really get very butt hurt? No.
