Hello folks I'm back. Been so busy with school and now back to some rugger. The All Blacks toured the British Isles and France in 1963-64. This tour will be remembered for that 3-0 defeat the All Blacks suffered against Newport. In their final major match of the tour, the Kiwis took on a very strong French side. Enjoy the highlights

This game was the test debut for AB halfback Chris Laidlaw. He played over 20 tests between 1964-1970 and was considered one of the best halfbacks in the world at the time.

Sid Going came along in 1967, and then there was the Going or Laidlaw, debate, Laidlaw had the better pass, Going had the better running game, and in South Africa 1970 Earl Kirton made it clear who he would rather play outside of, no surprise it was his Otago team mate. Bryan Williams was of the opinion if Going had of been used at half back, the all blacks would have taken the series. Laidlaw was brutally punched in the head in first test of that series by Frik Du Preez, and just did not seem the same player after that. I believe he was also the NZ high commissioner in Africa, and was the Race Relation Conciliator

@@Rotowhaka Agree super Sid should have played in the rest of the test series against the Boks after coming on and setting up Bee Gees's try in the 1st test. His running game split the Boks defence.

Some lovely fluid rugby football. They could be quite good if they learned to hold the ball.

Alot of people don't realize how slippery the traditional leather balls were. It was not until the 80s when synthetic balls were widely introduced and the fields began to get modern drainage systems that handling improved. Shows a lack of basic knowledge of history to criticize.

NZ player numbers are the opposite of modern system. The full back is No 1 and the forwards are 8 to 15.
