This 1964 Chevrolet Impala is equipped with a powerglide transmission. We re-seal the transmission and replace the speedometer cable & bullet.

Nice video we can appreciate this also is this the same process to change out Trans pan gasket and also those other parts etc on a 64 impala non ss TH 350 transmission mines has the 327 engine

We did this speedo cable swap on my car (66) and today on its 1st test drive heard a spooling sound within dash and the needle keeps floating from 5-20mph. Do you think it's that lower bullet part (which we didn't change) or a problem within the speedo cluster in dash?

I would double check the cable for any signs of binding and pull the bullet and look at the gear. If neither of those things have an issue, then the problem is likely in the instrument cluster.

when you threaded the new cable to the rear of the speedo, how many times did you turn the new cable onto the threaded section to the rear of the speedo? i did it about 5 times and it gets tight. does that seem right?

also, after doing that i can hear the speedo cable whirring, and the speedo moh is all over the place. also, i changed the gear and made sure the bullet housing was secured in the trams

I don't recall, I just threaded it until it was hand tight. I would double-check that the cable is not biding somewhere. They do make a little noise, but once again if it's excessive, then I would suspect it's binding inside.

was it a 8/18th for the bullet or will a 8/18 diameter work? I have original 1964 impala ss with a powerglide transmission

I am not sure what your question is here? The drive gear and the driven gear will have different numbers of teeth. This car was 8 on the drive 18 on the driven.

The bullet wouldn't cause noise. A bad cable or gear possibly could. Does the speedometer still work? Is the noise speed related?

@@DanielSanchez-jd4mq I would remove the cable from the transmission and see if the noise goes away. If it does, then I would suspect an issues with the cable.
