O.k., enlighten me-now be thorough. Why isn't this Mustang a gasser- screw the Duster....that's not a gasser and no-one said it was. Seriously though...why isn't this Mustang a gasser?
revinkevn Sorry if I sounded like a jerk. Anyway, the video is not very sharp but from my computer monitor it appears to have stock front suspension. A gasser has a strait axle front end usually with leaf springs in the front also. Some gassers use a strait axle with a four bar and coil over shocks. Also almost all gassers sit high up in the air, sometimes higher in the front than the rear. If it does have a strait axle under it, I suppose it could be called a gasser. Again sorry for coming off like a jerk. Also go to my channel; Doosterfy and check out my sleeper 440 Duster kicking butt at Lebanon Valley Dragway.
No problem,-Car has a straight axle front end from a late 60's Ford Van. Also has altered engine mount and sits 5 inches to the rear. I have a walk around video from when I hauled this car from a barn, a real barn not a garage, after 30+ years. It was built in 1966, raced a few years then stored.
revinkevn Oh, my bad. Very cool car! I'm actually thinking about building a 57 Chevy four door wagon like this. I figure look for a shabby but not rotted one down south, and haul it back to Connecticut. I want to cut off the front frame and go with square tubes and a light weight tube axle with a four bar and panhard setup in front. Probly go with a fiberglass front end and no bumper too. Leave the stock frame from the firewall back and open up the rear wheelwells to the frame rails and go with ladder bars. Look for a full race used small block and run a four speed then leave whatever patina it came with and enjoy the hell out of it! Oh yeah also like your car I don't want it to sit high. If you know Tim Tasmer, he has a 55 wagon sorta like this but his is a full on bracket car, ALL cars I build get driver on the street also.
Actually many gassers did not have strait axles. A gasser follows the Gas class rules of NHRA , and it depends on which years but I just learned alot about it last night looking up old NHRA rules. if you are interested in gaasers might spend an eve reading about the old rules.
