@@Prowbar That spark plug feeding straight down through the intake runners is a stroke of genius. I wish more engines had that design.

@@SirEpifire Works great keep the plugs and plug wires away from the heat from the manifolds. Keeps the wires short as well. The drawback is that crud gathers in the pockets and needs to be blown out using compressed air before removing plugs.

This is super cool.

Back 30+ years ago I had a customer that a fleet of 3/4 & 1 ton (350 Chevy) trucks along with a gas powered (International Red Diamond 450) “Grove” crane, all of the vehicles had the dual fuel kits installed on them. Wish I had one of these kits today!

Nice. The parts for the conversion are still made and available, but you would need a refueling station of some sort. Not sure how common these are in the US?

I wish GM had developed this engine further. I think it has real potential.
@Prowbar

GMC did continue to improve and develop the engine, but GM closed it off 74. Had the diesel versions been better there would have been more hope for the V6 I think. Also, the 305 should have never been developed, the power-to-weight ratio is too poor for it to work as a proper engine. 351 should have been the minimum size and the 401 should have been an option in pickups. Can't turn back time now. That's why I'm putting in a 478 V6 :)

@@Prowbar That'll be a good build! But you have the 305 is running great on propane! keep us updated brother! I love it!

@@blackericdenice maybe. Just installed a 478, waiting on the camshaft (my own custom grind). That engine will run on propane as well and uses the same system. I blocked off the exhaust ports to the intake manifold to keep the intake cooler.

This should win an engineering award.

Haha, thanks. This is quite a common conversion, here in the Netherlands.

Propane is almost 1/3 the price of gasoline.

Hey boss! I have the same motor for a forklift and was wondering if the motor needs any special plugs to run the propane? Or are they stock plugs
@Prowbar
@Prowbar Год назад
These are just stock plugs, AC Delco R43XLS. You can run special propane plugs but I have not tried them. Hyster forklift? I know they put the 305 V6's in them.

Gap em narrow or it could spit and backfire, usually like .025 or so is ok,not much more than .030. Smaller air cooled engines want it around .020 or so. Seen it happen before quite a bit when doesnt check plug gap on a propane engine.
@Prowbar
@Prowbar 2 месяца назад
@@MrTheHillfolk I'm running the stock .035" gap, both with HEI and points. Don't have any issues igniting the mixture or with backfires.

Hello Dear Friends,,, I am a owner of the 455 cui. Engine. It is working by “4-barrell Rochester QuadraJet carburetor” I own an American PONTIAC GRANDVILLE Car. I live in a wheelchair. There is something I want to learn from you, knowledgeable friends. I would be really happy if you could help me. What is the most appropriate "Propane Dual Fuel Mixer" Kit that should be installed on the 7.4 Liter (455 cubic inch) engine on my car, so that it works like it works with gasoline without any problems, and also shows smooth running performance in daily use? From whom do I learn about Brand and Model information? From whom can I get technical information? Who knows about this subject?? Could you please tell me which brand and model kit is the most suitable kit for this engine?? I am a good hearted person. because throughout my life, “my first priority has always been to help people”. And Now, on this issue, I am asking you very seriously, "BECAUSE I NEED YOUR HELP". because I'm sure of this; If you were in my place, and you asked me for help on a subject I know, I would definitely help the person in front of me, no matter who they are. NOTE: I want to run my car on Propane, Yes.. BUT, I just don't want to use only gasoline. I really need this car as I can't walk!!! If I run out of propane on the road, I HAVE TO "START THE ENGINE ON GASOLINE" and CONTINUE MY WAY. I hope to hear your suggestions soon Thank you very much for your helpfulness and sensitivity. God Bless You 🙏💙🙏

Sorry it took so long to reply. I'm using an Impco 300A mixer and Model E converter. Diagrams can be found online.
