Yes, it is quite strong. It is probably top three for my 18s. The cylinder head for the 22c.i. 25hp fits the piston dome much more closely than does the 18hp head. I am interested to try higher octane fuel in it to see if it benefits. Thanks for watching, Sam!
@@davidparlee3102 the kicker is they were only made for fiberglass cowl motors starting being that they ran from 1969 thru 1976. It seems to work well so far. We'll see how the longevity is.
This one really turned out to be a great runner. Time will tell how the extra high compression from the 25hp cylinder head affects it. I'm really wanting to try some higher octane fuel in it to see if there is any benefit. If/when I do I will report on it. Thanks for watching!
Dad bought one of those for the kids' boat when I was 12. It was rigged with Simplex controls and was the most straight forward, reliable engine we ever had ... and we had a lot of fine ones from Scott-Atwaters, through Gales, Evinrudes and Eltos. In fact, our only bad experiences were with Mercurys. Regards !
The OMC 22c.i. motors are my favorite. I especially like the 18s for their excellent mix of run quality, power, and portability. There are a lot of good motors out there, but these remain to be my favorites. Thanks for watching!
Thank you and thanks for watching! This one with the 25hp head is kind of an experiment for me. It's got very high compression. I'm curious if it will benefit from higher octane fuel and I'm also wondering how the service life will be with that much compression. In the meantime, it's a nice, strong runner and a fun motor to run.
Excellent motors. I love the 22c.i OMCs and especially the 18s as I believe they have the best overall run quality of all the 22c.i motors. Be safe out there and enjoy your boat. Thanks for watching!
This boat does very well with any of the 22c.i. OMCs. 18s will always be my favorite, but I like the 20s and 25s a lot too. The 25s typically give up some bottom end torque, idle quality, and fuel economy, but they do have the performance edge over the 18s and 20s. I like them all. Thanks for watching!
That’s a sweet smooth running 18 Ben! Looks like you had great weather for the meet! Have a great week ahead! I am! Finally getting some rain here. Mark in Iowa.
Thank you. Yes, this one turned out great. It's a very nice, smooth, strong runner. We had really nice weather for the meet. A couple days were very hot, but we had very little rain over the week. All the events went on as scheduled. There had been rain the week before and this week it is supposed to rain again. We have been getting rain in SE Michigan as well. Thanks for watching, Mark!
I hate to be a pest! But I am purchasing an 1965 FD-19 this weekend after failing to get my 1957 Evinrude 5.5 fisherman started this summer. I am a self taught first timer. Would it be possible to email you a direct question or two once I begin the process of overhauling it? If not, I totally understand! Your videos are a great resource.
You're getting an excellent motor. The 22c.i OMCs are my favorites. I will try to assist you if you have some questions. bbreitner at hotmail dot com and good luck with your motor. Thanks for watching!
I managed to hit 25.1 mph once. It was solid and stead in the mid to high 24s. I probably could have managed a solid 25 with my better prop, but I dodnt care to risk it on the river. It's not quite is fast as my electric start '73 Fastwin, but it's strong. It's a keeper. Thanks for watching, David!
It's a strong one. I'm running a 9.25x11P 3-blade aluminum prop on it in this video. It is possible that it may gain slightly with a 13P 2-blade, but I wouldn't expect much improvement in the top end and probably a loss of bottom end performance. I'm sure I'll try it at some point. Thanks for watching!
The 25 piston has the pin higher to get the pprts longer open. Almost all 25 hp. engines have self destructed. 25 head on a 18 is not a good idea and wont see many working hours, way to much compression.
I am aware of the difference in the wristpin location in the 25s. There are still lots of the 25s around. I wouldn't say most have self destructed. I would agree that many have been pretty used up though. This thing does have pretty extreme compression. I may go back to an 18 cylinder head and see how it compares. I'd also like to try higher octane fuel in this motor as it is to see if it benefits from that at all. While the compression is high, it isn't any higher than some other 2-stroke outboards. This motor is serving as an experiment of sorts for me now. I'm sure this is not the first time this has been done on purpose or by accident. Thanks for watching!
