Some detailed video and photos of my front wall rot repair on our 1965 Shasta Compact Trailer. I tried to show how I fixed the rot and made the camper stronger and better structured.
WARNING! Do NOT use modern pressure-treated lumber if it will in any way contact the aluminum skin of your camper. The chemicals in the lumber react with aluminum and will eat it away over a short time...

Thank you for your video. It is still helpful to folks like me, 10 years after you posted it! I just recently bought a 1965 Shasta compact, and it is good to see the inner structure of how it is built for my own reference and possible future repairs. I love this trailer, mine is pretty much all original and in amazing shape for being 56 years old!

The skin is very minimally attached... Mainly by screws along the edge and depending on what panel, maybe a few screws within the panel. I replaced all the screws with stainless screws, #8 x 1" I believe, as well as replace the sealant tape with modern butyl rubber tape. Do not use the old style putty tape sealant, it dires up and leaks eventually. Use the buytl rubber tape. If you buy the screws online, in bulk, the cost is less than $15 for 100 screws and the buytl tape is inexpensive too.

You must remove ALL of the aluminum skin to repair an old trailer properly...

No, I disagree. You only need to remove the areas affected by the rot. This is a REPAIR, not a REBUILD.
