'Your mission Jim, should you choose to accept it...' Today, we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the debut of Mission Impossible on CBS broadcast television on the night of September 17, 1966.
Mission Impossible ran on the CBS network television from fall 1966 to spring 1973. A hit for CBS, it ran for seven seasons, 171 episodes and spawned another TV series years later, as well as a successful feature film movie franchise.
This particular interview with series star Barbara Bain is from the Vicki Lawrence Show (Vicki!) from April 22, 1993. Ms. Bain, married to co-star Martin Landau at the time of filming Mission Impossible, left the series with her husband after season number three in 1969. She later co-starred with her husband in the mid 1970's syndicated television series 'Space 1999.'
In this interview with Vicki Lawrence, Ms. Bain describes the process of being interviewed by Lucille Ball during casting (Desilu Productions was producing the series pilot and series). Bain also gives credit to series creator, Bruce Geller, the mastermind behind the series concept.
Coming up next - an episode introductory clip from season 4 as changes to the cast give Mission Impossible a new look.
This video clip is presented here on RU-vid for the entertainment and informational value of the viewer, and no copyright infringement is intended.
Enjoy!

True. Until Michelle Obama came along. I doubt tv will ever see anyone so beautiful as Michelle Obama. My God, she is stunning!

This was an awesome show. It was nice that she had Barbara on and admired her.

She really was that show. I didn't like to see all those young ladies, especially Leslie Ann Warren. I thought she was much too young to be a female spy.

Not seen it before even though I'm a devoted fan of Barbara Bain ...Oh my goodness though, just listen to what smoking has already done to her voice! Still on the bright side, she's well in her 80s now, so I guess at some point she must have given it up!

Actually, that is not why either of them left. And there have been interviews where they have both discussed what happened and why they left M:I

Barbara Bain was summoned to Lucille Ball's office at Desilu Studio. Bain was married at the time to Martin Landau who was cast and Lucy wondered if casting Bain was nepotism or in fact was right for the part. Barbara Bain won the Emmy for her performance in a dramatic role and guess who won for best ccomede? Lucille Ball

Barbara Bain was that show. All of the females that came after her were never as good as she was.

Hi Larry - thank you for watching. We'll circle back and will make an adjustment to this interview clip, which indeed was circa 1993 (early 1990s era). Often, when we post videos about an era of television, we try to 'package' them into an overall 'theme' that we're working on for that season, or month... a blog of sorts with some perspective on what took place at that earlier time. In this case, we were paying tribute to the 1966-67 television season when Mission Impossible first hit the US airwaves, and we try to include as many cast interviews as we can find to complement the clips we have on the show itself, theme song, etc. Hope you'll keep watching for more on the television landscape here at Television Vanguard. Thanks again for the comment and best wishes. - Television Vanguard staff

@@TelevisionVanguard Thank you for your response. By the way, I got the 1993 date from her list of credits, under "self," on IMDb.

Gorgeous Cinamon Carter held and smoked her cigarettes incredibly seductively! Nice to hear her smoker's voice.

Looks like it was filmed in the 80's or 90's and then uploaded from a VHS tape lmao

She did a fine job with that role. The directing must have been good too. They didn't try to make her act sexy.

When Barbara and her husband Martin left Mission Impossible, it was for more money. Then in 75 they did a show called ‘Space 1999’. That show was a flop.
@treeduck3705
@treeduck3705 4 года назад
They didn't leave for that show, they left in 1969 and Space 1999 didn't start until 1975.

It was not a flop. It was made in the UK and on US TV it was not picked up by networks, but attracted huge ratings, so much so it hurt the networks. They subsequently applied their efforts to ensuring the second season of Space:1999 did not get as much air time in the US. It retains a huge global cult following to this day.

@@adriansherlockdamondark.1094 I stand corrected. All I know is the clips I saw were straight up horrible and pedestrian.
