Women on N. Western Ave. and W. Grand Ave. selling poppies for American Legion Poppy Day, May 26th. 1966. Any stores still around? From old and silent 8mm home movies.
Belmont and Wolcott, newspaper outlet. I delivered the tribune and sun times, and the Spanish paper, they supplied the bikes papers and facilities to wrap the papers. Thank you “Duke” and your son who’s name escapes me for teaching me about work! I will never forget my first job and the men that pointed us kids the right way and tought us hard work. My memory of growing up in Chicago.
Pouring drinks on the street, peeps walking around smiling, no one getting robbed, car jacked or in danger. I was a kid in 66 and remember these days and ask myself WTF happened!? Who effed us up so badly in such a short period of time!!
IIRC, Western and Grand is the location where there was once an old WW II Stuart light tank located as a veterans' memorial. I believe it was moved elsewhere some years ago. I have a friend who lives on Huron near Western and has for 45 years. The old Ukrainian Village area is now a fashionable place to live. I moved to Florida 39 years ago so what Chicago neighborhoods are "safe" is now unknown to me.
@@Diogenes-ty9yy No Chicago neighborhood’s are safe now, criminals have cars (and if they don’t they’ll take yours), and they know that if they are caught our Mayor and Cook county state’s attorney will do everything they can to make sure that they get back on the streets.
