I spotted that 'K. Smith' on the grid and realised that he is, in fact, the same Ken Smith who *still* races the New Zealand Grand Prix (now in the Toyota Racing Series) to this day. He'll compete in the 2021 GP at the age of 79
Dude, you're spoiling the hell out of us. As someone who only cares about historical sim racing, watching your backlog during the lockdown was a shining light during a very dark year. Suddenly having a video nearly every day has been overwhelming (in a good way). Just try not to burn yourself out, man.
Ferrari didn’t participate in Tasman until ‘68, when he was convinced by Amon to do so. Amon got a car, a Dino 166 F2 ‘67 chassis joined with a Dino 246 engine from the ‘66 season 😉 the version used by Bandini at Monaco and Spa, and Scarfiotti at Nurburgring
This man is spoiling us, Good to see someone doing a Tasman Season. Not many sim racers give it much attention. I’m looking forward to the Lakeside race
Brilliant! When I did the Tasman Series with one of the older carsets in GPL I replaced Pukehoke with Ardmore, which held the NZ GP until 1962. Great stuff nonetheless!
Just as a note - Pukekohe is pronounced POOK (rhymes with "book")- A - Ko- Hee Maori and Japanese share a pronunication scheme, so if you can say it in Japanese you can say it in Maori :)
I mean, with Romaji, the ke would be like kay or keh, and the he would be similar. Though one of the reasons they're similar is probably that the Romanisation was made to try to follow the pronunciation of Latin characters closer to Latin than English.
Amazing to see you Sir not only back in fashion, but also to see again the good ol' Jake starting series after years of waiting! If I was you I'd also consider as a sequel the GPL 1968 Champ or otherwise (I talk as a sportcars of the past fan) the 1967 World Sportcars Championship. That would be amazing Sir. What do you think?
I’m seriously excited for this (currently still watching) but Lakeside is one I’m seriously looking forward too, Fast with nasty elevation and camber in the last corner with Sub minute laps potentially.
Leo Geoghegan (pronounced Gay gan). A well known Australian driver, who raced at Bathurst with his brother Ian. As an aside, Longford exists in rFactor, rFactor 2, GTL & GTR 2.
hay bro I'm a kiwi and ive raced there and you can find a pukekohe version in v8 supercars game 1,2and 3 and it was called race driver in other parts of the world but it still miss turn 2 and 3 from the Tasman series in the 60s so ya this is kind of like it but not really.. and it's a horse race course like Sandown in australia..with the race circuit around the out side..
I’m psyched that you’re doing the Tasman Series! Most of the tracks that it went to still exist, unfortunate that Pukekohe isn’t in GP Legends because it’s very unique compared to the kind of track that GP drivers would go to at that time.
Definitely surprised that no one has done a Pukekohe mod for GPL. I will note, for 1963-66, the first 4 years of the circuit, it was the 2.2-mile layout at Pukekohe, and I really don't know if any sim has that version of the circuit.
Disappointing that New Zealand tracks aren't in more games, they're all a blast to drive. Also competing against Ken Smith in the race. Because the NZGP has been running in other categories over the years (F5000, Toyota Racing Series, and a few more) 2021 will be his 50th attempt at the race, true NZ racing legend.
1 week to get from SA to NZ no wonder Jack didn't make it initially. you need to edit the gplai66.ini or whatever it is called, as usual the ai has 10-15 kph up on our physics.
It's the completely redone Spa67 track for GPL. He shows it off in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9r9Y8rgp9N4.html&ab_channel=GPLaps
