The TORONADO has to be the most under-appreciated automobile of the last 60 years. It is considered a "landmark" vehicle for many reasons. Your car is utterly gorgeous.

@@robertharris7027 Wrong. The 66 Toro was the FIRST fwd since the Cord. It set the pace for all the fwd of today. The cornering and overall handling was phenomenal! I should know, I owned one. Speed plus Handling, a "Can't Beat Combo!

I agree entirely, the 1966 model year was the first and best of the bunch. Absolutely beautiful design, perfect proportions, very powerful and comfortable. The pinnacle of the 1966 Oldsmobile line. I have my high school hotrod, a 1971 Olds Cutlass S that I dearly love and if I had a chance to add a '66 Toro (ONLY the '66 model) to my stable, I would. I had a neighbor who had a maroon '66 back in the mid 1980's. Even though it was not in perfect shape I lusted after that car for years.

Hey hey hey congratulations! Glad you found one that met your exacting standards! That color is terrific and really sets off the sharp lines of the toro. I will agree that the rear 3/4 is the best angle on this car (along with it's platform mates riv and eldo). I think I still prefer the knife edge sculpted slab rear fenders of the riviera but this is an amazing addition to your stunning collection. It's nice to see another olds on the channel. Still hoping we get a full video on the cutlass you have/had.

I had one, a 66 same color in 1981. It was a powerful car that handled better than anything I had up to that time. I heard rumors they would spin the speedometer back to zero. I remember hitting 133 mph and it still had a few more mph left. In reverse it could plow through 16 inches of snow better than forward. I wasn't to easy on it and blew the 425 engine. They came out very easy and I repaired it and blew it up again. The party was over for my 66.

Happen to notice your #276 Corgi Toronado sells on E-bay if you ever wanted to replace it -I would. Road Signature also makes a nice 1/18 scale die cast of this car, exact year and color even (I have a ridiculous collection of these going back to childhood). If I were Adam I would just get both to accommodate his real one.......🙂

Thanks for memories! Back in the Sixties I lived a couple of blocks from the garage where they kept John Smyser's Terrifying Toronado. It was a drag machine with another Toronado power train aft. Both engines were built and the car was a handful to keep straight. Good times.

So glad you bought one Adam. I love my 1966. It is my favourite American car design from General Motors. I hope you enjoy it. I reckon it is a cross between a luxury car and a Corvette. Mine has radial tyres and the Olds dealer who owned it put 4 wheel discs on it from a Corvette. Agree 1966 is the best looking. The only aspect of the 67 I slightly prefer is the flush concealed headlights. Enjoy.

I was 10 in 66. I just about flipped when I saw one for the first time. I was a Pontiac fan-kid, fascinated with the design changes that would come out each year. But this was something else entirely. It was, to my eye, even cooler than the cream colored Avanti which would go by our place. I was impressed by the Charger, the Barracuda, and even the Marlin (why - I don't know) but nothing beat this Toronado. It's almost as beautiful as the Gen 1 Riviera.

My parents' had a 66 Toronado in the same color combination when I was young. A beautiful car that was fully loaded with options. What a gorgeous looking car. For sure the first 1966 model was the best looking with it's "eye brow" over the pop-up headlights and its sleek horizontal grill design. After 1966 the design just got worse and worse with egg-crate grills, vinyl roofs (???) and eventually exposed headlights. I'm old enough to remember when this car was introduced. I would have been about 8 at the time. I have always viewed the 1966 Toronado as the first production car that looked like a show car. Previously cars with extreme styling like this were presented as show cars at car shows but never made it into production. This one made it into production! This car is in amazing showroom condition. It is only too bad that it is not fully-loaded with power windows, power seats, A/C etc. I know you said "who cares" but when I was young the big mystique of high-end cars like this was that they were loaded with every conceivable option for the time e.g. power windows, power seats, power brakes and steering (yes those were options back then!) Air Conditioning, twilight sentinel etc. I can remember as a child walking up to high-end cars (Cadillac's, Lincoln's) and peeking through the windows just to get a look at the "goodies".

It is beautiful, and a fantastic example of how good the late-60s cars from GM could be. It even has a tiny shade of Corvette in there. It's lean, lithe and purposeful. The car looks at you and says: "Your Mission, Should You Choose to Accept It..." (remember that "Mission: Impossible" first aired in 1966!) The front fenders say: "Cutting edge! Get out of the way!" and those "eyebrows" above the headlights add character and suggest that much more lies beneath and behind. What a car! especially for something mass-produced that anyone could walk in and buy. So many cars today have forsaken style melded with function as this car exemplifies. You have some really good friends watching your channel, too! Whew, Adam! It's really a testament to how much we appreciate your style, narration, the proper historical treatment you supply, and your great taste in cool cars that many were too young to know about or have forgotten in the fullness of time. If I may say so, you're a "Square" in the best possible sense of the term.

What a gorgeous example of the Toronado. This takes me back to one of my early cars, a 1970 Toronado, one of my favorite cars, which was a tired “beater” daily driver during my college years. I loved the Toronados so much that over time I had 4 of them from the 66 to 93 model year run. My favorite was my 88 Toronado Trofeo, which was right sized for a personal luxury car. I’m surprised that this “most expensive” Olds had manual windows and no AC. The powertrain used on those early fwd GM cars was so solid for a new to GM technology. Note how the wheels completely surround the drum brakes - they were way offset to accomplish that, and similar wheels existed through the 1970 model, although the newer ones had to clear the much larger front disk brakes. Thanks for taking me back!

Love your work Adam. My name Mark and I live in Australia and have a super clean original 67 Toronado with everything working, yes even the clock. I have the highest respect for the 66 model but I feel the 67 has a more refined front end. I’m partial to the more luxurious interior with the improved door hinges, interior door locks mid door, collapsible steering column with hazard flasher and hand brake light integrated in the dash. I wish I had the optional four spoke wheel for 67. I love this car as it has a special make in time for the automotive history and I’m sure you feel the same with your car. My father bought one of these for my mother when I was probably 6 or 7 after she rapped her '65 Riviera around a tree. I don't much remember the Riv except for in photos. He'd take we kids on all sorts of roadtrip adventures in the Toronado and I remember thinking even then how different and better it looked to me compared to everything else on the road. Particularly from the C pillar back. What a lovely profile. Pop had an eye for design. Silver with interior exactly like Adam's only black. Unfortunately this one had an unceremonious ending as well when, while en route from CT to the Bronx Park Zoo on a hot summer's day (it was cool in the AC'd car until...) we were violently rear ended by a drunken idiot. We all, including him, came out pretty bruised but not broken too badly but the car was totaled. Eventually a few years later the old boy wound up getting the Eldorado that would have finished the threesome but it was a '76. I remember he wanted one like Adam's but then he fell in love with that '76 for some reason even with the blatant decline in quality in just about every respect. And BHP! What a pig. It took a while to get that arc up to highway speed. That interior had some really cheap, HARD plastic. Some fairly nice leather also but only on the seat faces and the vinyl that covered everything else was a few shades off from the leather even from new and from then on the divide continued to worsen. And boy, were those doors heavy! This channel harkens back to a formative time for me that I cherish. These machines are really just enormous chunks of thick old steel from an existential perspective but they truly are greater than just the pieces that comprise them. I can't believe that there are folks out there for whom that's such a foreign concept. I just hope it doesn't get to where they will no longer be allowed to operate. They must be preserved. Think "Red Barchetta" by Rush. What a bummer that would be. Sorry to end like that. Happy thoughts.

Just saw your channel for the first time and love seeing these cars. I'm a proud owner of a 87 Buick Grand National here in K.C. Missouri

That is awesome Adam. It proves that patience pays off. I love that color as well. That is the first thing I thought when I seen it. You have been looking for a long time for this.

The color is amazing! Congrats on this latest acquisition. The 66 model is my favorite also.
