Very cool. Just pulled a 63 out of this fellas property myself. Thing was sitting on a wooden plank trailer for a number of years. She did spin free and she did start on can gas...and actually was pretty responsive with the accelerator pedal. The thing that I did different here was pulled all the plugs..cleaned them with my abrasive cleaner. Shot some 2cyl oil down each cylinder and on the rockers. WD 40 is good, but may be a bit to thin in some casses. Then I used a breaker bar and spun her over by hand a few revolutions. Put the plugs back in...and poured a little 2cyl mixture down the carb. Fired right up. I do the 2cyl treatment because it will help keep the cylinder walls coated during a dormant dry start...and it will burn off without a lot of smoke....then I change the plugs after she's all "lubed" up...😉 Glad you're getting her going...they deserve to be back on the road....not sitting in a field to rot. Many happy miles to ya.

Actually off camera I sprayed the cylinders down with penetrating oil, cleaned the plugs which were very nice really, spun it 10 times over the course of the past week until I didn’t feel a ridge in the cyl walls anymore. That weed eater gas I was using was actually 2 stroke oil, as well. I think we did a very similar process, but I just didn’t record some of it. Will do better next time on the 421 2+2. Thanks for watching!

Oil ---- Did you add Zinc to the new oil? VERY IMPORTAINT you add Zinc as the EPA removed it in most new oil and you WILL EAT THE CAM & LIFTERS in very short order with out adding your own Zinc additive. Also for your lifter tick, add a bottle of Reslone Hyperlube , the stuff really WORKS ! You made a bad mistake in firing up a Pontiac V8 that had been sitting a long time. You should have removed all the spark plugs and 1 valve cover and squirt some Marivel misty oil in each cylinder and cranked the motor over with the HEI disconnected ( unplugged) and crank the motor over with all the spark plugs out until you seen oil pumping out of each rocker arm pee hole.( takes a lot of cranking) As the lifters pump up from cranking it fast with the plugs out, It also would have primed the fuel pump & carb float bowels from all the cranking. After you got everything primped up, take the battery backout and put it on the charger over night to get a full charge and then install the valve cover, hook the HEI back up and install all the S plugs. Put the now totally charged battery back in and put a shot of gas in the carb ( ONE SHOT !) and VAROOOMmmmmm that 389 would have fired right up smoked like hell for a min or so to burnup the rest of the Marvil misty oil and ran like new I also run a QT. of TCW3 Two stroke oil in the first take of gas to loosen up the rings Oh sure it might smoke a little but the old rings LOVE IT !as the extra oil in the gas helps re seat the dry rings.

I did actually fill the cylinders with marvel and let it sit a week before the video. And I used the rotella t4 that has zinc added to it. Thanks for the info!
