Email (jerryheasley@gmail.com) if you have a barn find or know of one. Or call me at 806-236-3681. We will feature you in the video or even buy the car or pay a finder's fee if you don't want the car and just know where it is, etc.
Parked since 1980 under a hay shed, this legendary street racer finally sold. Jonathan Large plans to restore this Day Two (Day 2) muscle car to its legendary street racing formula with 427, mag wheels, 850 CFM double pumper carburetor, headers, and more. This video includes street racing stories from the Vietnam veteran that bought and raced the Chevelle in the 1970s in Virginia.

I dated a girl that lived in Woolwine Virginia for years. I remember her dad talking about this car. It definitely was a local legend. It is ironic that all these years later I own a 66 Chevelle. Awesome car!!!

Bought a new 66 SS 396 Dec 65, marina blue 325hp, 4 speed, 3.73 posi rear ! Had it for 17 months, traded it in on a 67 GTO ragtop ! Wish I still had both these cars ! This is a great barn find and definitely worthy of complete restoration !

I can remember a burger stand with car-hops that all the local street racers hung out at that had a row that was "reserved" for cars that could turn 12 second ets or better. There was an orange '69 Chevelle that was the car to beat, 10.90 with slicks. Not bad for the early '70s.

I went up there 3-4 weeks ago for the first time in my life. The guy that bought the Chevelle in 1973 told me back then there wasn't hardly anybody on the roads, but now they are much busier and you can't go out there and race. He also told me about hauling moonshine, which I didn't realize people did in the 1960s. He told me how much they got paid and everything. I am going back and they said they would take me up in those hills to see some untouched old moonshine cars. One of the most popular choices for a moonshine runner, I think he said, was a '65 Chevelle. I don't remember reading anything about this in any of the car mags. Do you?

I used to have both a 1966 and a 1967 Chevelle SS in my younger days. I found that the 396 had a notorious weak mains and my friend and I used to throw the main bearings. We also found the oiling system was not great. To resolve this the main bearing issue we either used to go to either to the 427 or 454, either that or go find a 396 with a 4-bolt main short block which were not easy to find or simply take the short block and have it machined to strengthen it. To take care of the oil problem was simply install a better oil pump.

I thought so, too. It's going back a 427 like it street raced in those days. Maybe I should put up a little video. I went to Ararat, Virginia and Jonathan took me on a trip where they street raced. If you want to get the flavor of that place, which is about 10 miles from the setting for the Andy Griffith show, check out my video on Jonathan going to pick up a couple of Corvettes and Corvette parts - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AmoLaxLWnLw.html

I had a 67 SS 396 Maroon black vinyl top. Put solid mounts in it and Doug Thorley Show Tubes on her Hurst Competition Plus Shifter ,Edelbrock 6" rise Tarantula intake manifold the carb sat catty corner can not find any thing like it now and a Scatter Sheild just in case , boy was that the sound the deep crack of the those big side pipes and the whine of the M-22 and big wheel hop burning rubber sliding left then right as you shifted gears down the road as you caught rubber in all four gears . Sooo much fun back in the day the only thing I wish they had was disc brakes ,they would have saved me 3 front ends because drums would burn up so quick

Those aftermarket parts will soon be in vogue. I am working on an article about this now. Muscle cars with period correct parts are going to be hot next, just like rods with period correct modifications and vintage hot rod parts.

There are 2 chevelles shown in this video. One has the Crane Cams sticker on the driver side window with mag wheels the other has chevelle no sticker in the window, has winter treads on the rear and no front bumber guards. Several other small details that show 2 chevelles are in this video

very perceptive on your part and my mistake several years ago on that one, which the owner pointed out to me later. I'm afraid in that time frame I was overworked and underpaid to the extent passion was my main fuel. Have you been there?

I have a 67SS that I bought in 70. It has 50,000 or so miles on the odometer. Ben trying to restore it for 15 years now, always something comes up and the old Chevelle gets put on the back burner till a later day..... Just a few weeks ago it was 20 feet under hurricane Harvey flood water but it don't look like the water did any harm to it. Maybe some day I will get it back on the road.

Roost, I live in Houston right on Greens bayou. My house had 2 feet of the roof sticking out of the water, Chevelle was in the garage sitting under 20 feet of water. I also have a 98 Z28 Camero that was on my lift 6 feet in the air, I figured it would be safe, but it got totally covered in flood water also. Did you have any damage?

Sell it. If it’s been 15 years and you haven’t done anything to it it’ll probably be another 15 yrs of the same old story. Sell it to someone who will restore it. Don’t be like the a$$hat this video is about. We need these cars hitting the streets and shows and teaching this generation how to do something real they can take pride instead of making memes and earning video game trophies.

@thewriter2549
@thewriter2549 6 лет назад
I should do a video on the truth about the cost of restorations. Prices have been exaggerated for years. Restorers often charge for their research, but would you pay a mechanic to go to class to learn how to fix your car and then also pay him for the repairs? I talked to one restorer who openly told me he charged $150 an hour to make calls to do research, so no wonder we have 100K restorations. The great restorers, the honest restorers, the real car people do not charge for research. That's why you're taking the car to them because they know Hemi's, or they know Boss Mustangs, Corvettes, and so on.

Danny - I appreciate and enjoy reading your comments about your Chevelle!!! I have always wondered what happens to collector cars in tornados and hurricanes - seems the press never mentions an old car that got damaged and what happens to them. I hope your car made it through the floods and will be back on the road. Please let us know and email pictures to me.

It's a real shame. This car is Toast. All the sheet metal is trash and rusted through. it was originally a Marina Blue version. Blue over Blue I had one brand new just like this. It has some low buck aluminum wheels and cheapo air cleaner. My best guess after looking over the pictures there is probably some series rust issues in the frame. IMO this car is NOT worth restoring. I love Chevelles and have owned three 66's . But I would pass on this baby. A real shame.
