The weirdest guitar (or guitar-shaped organ), I've ever played. Not sure I'm doing it full justice here, with quick renditions of Procul Harum's Whiter Shade Of Pale and the Tetris theme (or Korobeiniki, as the original Russian folk song is called). A piece of space-age wizardry from Dick Denney, the man who brought us far better-known classics like the Vox AC-30. This crazy hybrid the result of putting the circuitry of a Vox Continental Organ into a Vox Phantom Guitar.
Funnily enough, it does play perfectly well as a guitar - with a lovely shimmering tremolo. But, each fret is embedded with 6 separate sensor strips, which act as the contact points for the organ pitch on each string. Engineering-wise, it makes sense - you've got to retain separation between the contact points. So you do have to hold yourself back If you like your finger-bends, for fear of slipping off the sensor into the dip next to the adjacent sensor. A true analog eccentricity.
And, if ever you've wanted to find someone to blame for the Roland Synth Guitars and Synth Axes of the 80s, Dick Denney is the evil genius that started it all ;-).
