I would also like to get the hooter working again on my '76 baywindow kombi. I once asked an auto electrician to have look at it and when I went to fetch it they had drilled a hole in the dashboard for a button and installed another hooter, saying that it was impossible to fix it via the steering column. It used to work, way back.
