THE PERFECT PRESENT: Don't know what to get dad for his birthday? Or maybe you have an avid hobbyist or collector in your life. This model kit makes an ideal gift for any occasion!
The Chevrolet Corvette (C2) is the second generation of the Chevrolet Corvette sports car, produced by the Chevrolet division of General Motors (GM) for the 1963 through 1967 model years.
The 1967 Corvette Sting Ray was the last Corvette of the second generation, and five years of refinements made it the best of the line. Although it was meant to be a redesign year, its intended successor the C3 was found to have some undesirable aerodynamic traits. Duntov demanded more time in the wind tunnel to devise fixes before it went into production.
Changes were again modest: Five smaller front fender vents replaced the three larger ones, and flat-finish rockers sans ribbing conferred a lower, less chunky appearance. New was a single backup light, mounted above the license plate. The previous models' wheel covers gave way to slotted six-inch Rally wheels with chrome beauty rings and lug nuts concealed behind chrome caps. Interior alterations were modest and included revised upholstery, and the handbrake moved from beneath the dash to between the seats. The convertible's optional hardtop was offered with a black vinyl cover, which was a fad among all cars at the time.
The 427 was available with a 1282 ft³/min (605 L/s) Rochester 3X2-barrel carburetors arrangement, which the factory called Tri-Power producing 435 bhp (441 PS; 324 kW) at 5800 rpm and 460 lb⋅ft (624 N⋅m) at 4000 rpm of torque.[29] The ultimate Corvette engine for 1967 was coded L88, even wilder than the L89, and was as close to a pure racing engine as Chevy had ever offered in regular production. Besides the lightweight heads and bigger ports, it came with an even hotter camshaft, stratospheric 12.5:1 compression, an aluminum radiator, small-diameter flywheel, and a single huge Holley four-barrel carburetor. Although the factory advertised L88 rating was 430 bhp at 4600 rpm, the true rating was said to be about 560 bhp at 6400 rpm. The very high compression ratio required 103-octane racing fuel, which was available only at select service stations. Clearly this was not an engine for the casual motorist. When the L88 was ordered, Chevy made several individual options mandatory, including Positraction, the transistorized ignition, heavy-duty suspension, and power brakes, as well as RPO C48, which deleted the normal radio and heater to cut down on weight and discourage the car's use on the street. As costly as it was powerful - at an additional $1,500 over the base $4,240.75 price - the L88 engine and required options were sold to a mere 20 buyers that year. With potential buyers anticipating the car's overdue redesign, sales for the Sting Ray's final year totaled 22,940, down over 5,000 units from 1966 results. Meanwhile, Chevrolet readied its third-generation Corvette for the 1968 model year.

Those of us that actually have to pay real money, those decals SHOULD come in the kit! Let's have a reason for that $33 + shipping!

Even more expensive here in the UK 🙁

Tip: 10mm flat washers make great brake discs if you want to take it a step further. Also Chris, I’ve been working with the Pledge and I’m getting the hang of it. I did a Boeing 767 and brushed it on and it’s unreal! Thanks for thinking outside of the model box lol!

MPC, AMT and Monogram will always be my favorite domestic makes. MPC boxes are simply the best for me. This one looks like the original MPC “Nightstalker” ‘67 big block I got. Nice build.
@davidsteen4606
@davidsteen4606 2 года назад
The "Night Stalker" came out after the Street Stalker, others. The 63 was easily changed from a 63 "Split Window", into the newer 64-67 coupes. I spent YEARS trying to to find Original issue MPC Street Stalker, to get the Original Mag Wheels and decals. Now Hundreds of $$$$ later, they Re-Issue the damned thing. At least it has an articulated chassis, versus AMT's front and rear wire axles. But NOW, HOW ???, do I cut up an original 50 year old kit that NOW has the same value as the current reproduction ???? Of course, I'll buy a couple or so of the repros to get the supposedly enhanced?expanded decal sheet. Good Luck, and HAPPY BUILDING to EVERYONE.

Big block Zoomies on a small block. O! the exhaust leaks! Didn’t you hear them when you fired it up, Chris? Great job on a true classic. This one and the ‘66 Charger are worth buying, not just for the nostalgic value, but, as you pointed out, for the box art. I like the built-ups on the boxes, too. 👍

If I'm not mistaking there's a kid that you can do that in real life put big block headers on a small block. Don't hold me to that but I think it is or was
@albertgaspar627
@albertgaspar627 Год назад
the secret on header gasket leaks was to let the gaskets soak in water 24 hours before install. put 'em on wet, they'll form to any imperfections on the head (meanwhile you file the header flange flat, typically the issue was the welds from primary tubes to flange). when you fire the engine up, they dry in place and then you re-tighten.
@albertgaspar627
@albertgaspar627 Год назад
@@buckster2575 unfortunately, the small block doesn't space the exhaust ports equally like a big block--the two "inside" exhaust ports are closer together.

I want to find this kit! It's a natural to build a replica of the car that Dennis Hopper drove at the end of "King of the Mountain." Don't know how thrilled I'll be about building such a ratty version of such a beautiful car, with black sidepipes and gray primer spots, replacing the blowing with a single 4-barrel carb, but that's what his car looked like! Yours looks great! I don't take the time to do as much detail work as you do, so I really admire that.

Wish more kits did the top/bottom engine split. But I think AMT's '69 Cougar came with a 1-piece block and that was the best thing ever.

it does avoid the obvious seamline thru the oil pan many split blocks offer.

I’ve learned that it’s soooo much easier to open the blower hole in the hood with a Dremel and spiral cutting burr. Once you get close enough to the inside edges of the opening, grab your flat jeweler’s file and square up. 👍🏼

This was already on my list cause I knew as soon as you do the part's review and the build, I would want it. That air filter at 5:08, I had one of those on my '70 Monte Carlo. (1 to 1 scale of course), it was from Edelbrock and it sure let that engine breath good.
@albertgaspar627
@albertgaspar627 Год назад
those "fly eye" have been tested against most other designs and they indeed work the best since they don't force incoming air to make a 90 degree bend into the choke horn of the carb.

*Beautiful* work, *Chris* ! I remember building the early 1980's iteration of this kit (that's where the other wheels and the triangle air filtres come from), while wanting for the 1970's version (long out of production by c.1983). I was hoping that you would've gel pen painted the raised letters on the rear tyres, but those decals look great ne'er-the-less. Keep up the *great* work !

Hi, Chris! Great job, as always! Just an observation, but I'm curious: you always show the brands, and colors of the paints you use. I've noticed that when you're using Testors silver, the bottle is always turned around where we can't see the front label. Is there a reason, or is it just coincidence? 😁

On the dental tools that you have on hand. Years ago I found a very nice - set of 10 - in a nice leather, zippered pouch - from Duluth Trading (yes, the same company that sells jeans and flannel shirts on line). There were 10 different scribes, picks, and curved tools - all stainless steel. Seems to me that the price was around $25.
