1967 DC-9-15(F) Kalitta Charters II LOUD Rocket Take Off

In 1967 this DC-9 was first delivered to Continental Airlines. Today it works as a small freighter under Kalitta Charters II N915CK. An incredible experience to hear once again how much more noise these older aircraft produce compared to the big jets of today.

I have flown on DC9s (Continental Airlines) as a kid. Sitting in the near back row looking out the window to see the fan hub from 4 ft away and hearing the shrill scream during take-off was a hoot.

The DC-9 took you up to the skies like no other passenger aircraft, ever. like straight out of a sling. The power you felt against your back on takeoff was just incredible. And of course the deafening engine roar, especially in the rear of the cabin. That's what was called flying! Still the most beautiful, graceful, elegant plane that ever flew.

I remember the last time I rode in a DC-9. When that nose lifts up and it takes off it feels like you are on a rocket going straight up. Exhilarating!

This aircraft is still flying g in 2018 at the age of 50 years. A friend of mine used to fly these for British Midland, he said they would climb like a rocket! I always wanted to fly them myself along with the B757, never did get to fly the DC9 but am very happy spending my working life taking the good people of Manchester to and from the Mediterranean holiday resorts in B757's. Happy days!

The 9 dash 10 is a hot rod. You have to be careful during takeoff without leading edge slats not to walk the spoilers if you lose an engine. It has the same roll rate as F-16's. I still liked the 72 and 75 more.

My avatar picture is actually me flying in one of Kalitta's B747-100 (N709CK) That old bird has since been retired and scrapped.

Am l missing something Here? The whole plane is a visual work of art. How you stayed focused on the forward fuselage for 3/4 of the time is one for the history books. Do you know the pilots? An original plane still active is probably on borrowed time. Opportunity lost. The proportions of the DC-9-15 are so balanced it's a treat for the eyes to see as a whole like the Learjet 23 is. Otherwise, the subject was excellent. Thank you.

Spent quite a lot of time riding the herd of DC-9's flown by Northwest Airlines in the late 80's thru mid 90's. The model in this video was a particularly enjoyable aircraft in which to fly. These felt as if they were falling "up" when departing the runway. Real quiet up front and an enjoyable engine whine in the back. Those were the days when aluminum aircraft powered by mighty turbojet engines ruled the skies!
