On "My Car Story" we're in Phoenix AZ on 1-27-24.
We're looking at a 1967 Ford Thunderbird in Wimbledon White Paint. The car comes with the 390 CI V8 engine and an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Kelly Castle. Kelly’s had this car since 2016. Kelly shares he had a car like this in High School and wanted to another one. Well happy to say he not only found this one, but he now restores late 1960’s Thunderbirds and has 5 of them.
ENJOY!

I’ve always thought that these Thunderbirds were under appreciated. To me, they have an iconic 60s luxury car vibe and are different than the more traditional Cadillac, Lincoln, Mercury, Buick type of thing. Thanks for letting us have a peek Kelly and Lou!

Hi Jeff, You're right they have a "luxury car vibe". I think people were not ready for 4 doors on the T Bird. I'd think most people see the car as a "Sports Luxury" car. Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou

As kids we would stop and stare as one of these new T-Birds passed by; funky hide-a--way headlights, sequential tailights and of course the suicide doors were all great features and still are! Thanks Lou for bringing this great example today - still cool!

Talk about the one that got away! Ouch! Depending on how much that was then, check an inflation calc. to see what "$750" really was then though. It will help take some of the sting away from missing it lol.

I am torn here. Like the horrific bastardization of the Mustang name with the use on a high-priced golf cart, part of me wants to hate on the idea of a 4-door Thunderbird. But the other part of me just likes this car so much and how this car morphed later on into the beaked monster that came about through 1971. I should not love this car. But I'm peeking through the keyhole in twisted interest! The front of this car looks like the intake on a jet from the Korean war. The tail lights are all Thunderbird and one of the nicest executions thereof. What warms my heart is the front seating area with the instrument panel. That is just so neat (or is that groovy baby?). To me the two-door T-bird without a vinyl roof was the best of this generation, but this is one nice example of the 4-door species! Once again, Lou, you simply rock the vintage automotive youtube genre with your videos. Your passion and interest is unparalleled. Must see channel!

This is a beautiful example of a 1967 Ford Thunderbird 4 Door Landau from an automotive golden era! All its ornaments and chrome lines looked pretty in the sunlight; like that elegant one that runs along the side of the black vinyl roof, ending in a curvilinear wooden shape and the Thunderbird logo in the middle (without forgetting its striking retractable headlights and the striking elongated rear lights). A magnificent black interior, starting from its elegant doors (suicide type), seats and the elegant instrument panel with dials and knobs of aeronautical style trimmed in wood. The collection of manuals and brochures of the time is impressive; in fact, some look like "works of art", including the CD with discs in the shape of rings! (A curious mention, for the friendly little dog who also wanted to be in the video! Haha). As always, the final route was magnificent; It's like moving back in time to a bygone era... Congratulations to Mr. Castle for this beautiful bird of the gods, and for his others that he has already restored! Best regards, Lou!

When I was a kid in the 1970s, the people down the street had one just like this! At the same time, my Dad had a '70 LTD four door hardtop, white with black vinyl top and dark blue vinyl interior. Those people had the same model of house as us too! I've NEVER seen an 8 track cartridge like the one shown in the brochure at 8:13. I also never noticed how that Landau Bar transitions into the drip rail molding! And check out how the interior 'Landau Bar' does the same with the interior molding which runs above the door glass. Those gauges/instruments resemble those of my old '68 Cougar.

Lou, I had just looked at your showing of the Copo Camaro, which was fun, but then going to this rare T-Bird reminded me that, at one time, I did really love some Fords. I drive a Ford again now as of 2020. The last of the Mohicans Ford Fusion! And you did not deny the 4-door model. See, the thing is, Lou, you get twice as much with the two extra doors! No one can deny that you are a Jolly good fellow! I might actually have to go back and look at this one someday. Ford did make great cars just as much as anyone, even beyond reliability! No one got tired of this model very fast. 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁

Saw one like this, same color parked in the Publix in Miami Lakes parking lot. It was the best looking car in the lot. There's just no comparison to a work of art like this compared to the junk boxes people are driving today. Ford trim in those years was outstanding, even the scroll work on the inside, to match the outside.

I have this exact car, but in turquoise. It's a 1967 w/ the black landau roof, four-door with the rear suicide doors. It's even got the same engine that Ford FE 390 V8. It's pretty original, but I did switch out the carburetor finally here, The original died on me and instead of rebuilding it I upgraded to a hobby 750 with vacuum secondaries. Really got the engine running good though. One thing I did is I redid the brake system so I'll new metal brake lines brake hoses new front disc brakes in the front and I even converted the drum brakes in the rear input disc brakes back there as well. She stops almost on a dime now, a car of that size that's wickedly impressive. I know those old cars don't have the safety features like we have now so wanted to make sure I had a great brake system for it. Been fixing her up here over the years since I got her about 3 years ago. Almost done in the engine bay and then I plan to move on to the body there is rust under but it's nothing bad My mechanic said it's just surface rust we don't have to address it. What I do need to fix is the rust around the wheels and the wheel wells and there's some rust that needs to be addressed in the trunk and just kind of fix up the trunk area. After that then I just want to get a good decent paint job for that glamor bird. Thank you for making this video It was awesome seeing your car.

Hey big bro Lou Cos!! On this snow day here in NYC-more of an icy dud lol🤪🤣-I just watched this awesome video of this Thunderbird, man. This 'Bird captures my imagination, man. My (somewhat) crazed imagination🤪. And kudos to your buddy Kelly, Lou! Obviously a creative, fun guy (and 100% a car guy), and as an actor/singer myself I really dig his CD there. So awesome how this car is ALL about style and statement....and I'll tell ya what I see, big bro. First off, she's as white as my tubesocked stocking feet (of course). And as a Roman Catholic guy who was an altar boy as a kid, I see pure ecclesiastical, Addams family style in that luxurious interior and honestly that side view is right out of an Irish wake, casket-like doors and all!! I gotta say, man-as a "Salem's Lot" by Stephen King fanboy, I could 100% see myself being knocked out and in the backseat (sneakers off) while ol' Straker is driving me up to the creepy Marsten House to pay a visit to his 300+ year old vampire boss Mr. Barlow. YIKES!! You guys just gotta rescue me, big bro lol 🤣🤪. The fantastical style of these cars is really something else, Lou. So elegant and creative all around, everywhere you look and feel, and imagine...And for a lightweight JV baseball jock like me, well-it is one hell of a KO😵😵! Started my car life as a Thunderbird nut. Had 3 1956s, 3 1957s, and one each 59, 62, 63, 64, 65, and 66. But once I drove a 1964 Rivera, I have been a Buick nut and a Riviera nut ever since. The GM cars of the 50s and 60s ride and handle world's better than Fords of the 50s and 60s. There are hundreds of cars I would love to own. I sometimes get the urge to try out a 1967-69 T-Bird two door hardtop NON-Landau version with the rear quarter side windows. Not a fan of the closed-in Towne Coupe style like my 66 was. My stepfather had a 1969 4 door landau for about a week. Never had a chance to drive it.

Not terribly popular relative to some other generations, but I like them a lot - including the 4 door, very luxurious. The story is that while the 4dr decision was still awaiting approval they showed one in black cherry to Iacocca who instantly said 'lock that in' (words to the effect). It still looks best in dark coordinating vs. contrasting colors because that tends to hide the cut line. It really needs the 428 or better yet the 429 which wouldn't come along until 68, but you lost the cool interior door handles and dash/console mounted power window switches (the 68 safety regs did not help interiors - not only did they lose individuality but companies began cost out stuff about that time too). Way, way way back, my kindergarten teacher had a 68 (the husband obviously made some money), and even as a tot I realized this was something special (it sure wasn't our Torino!). I have the deluxe T-bird brochures for this gen (and most other years actually)

I wasn't a fan of the four-door Thunderbird when Ford introduced it in the fall of 66. Thunderbird is a personal luxury sports car. Sports cars are not four door sedans. They are two door coupes. I was not a fan of the suicide doors either. In this case, it seemed to me the Ford division was trying to compete with the Lincoln-Mercury division. However, today, I can see how this car is a real collector's item. They are extremely rare. I don't think I ever saw one outside of the dealer's showroom. I think I would include it in my collection if I were a collector.

I thought that the 428 V8 was standard in the '67 T-birds. Atleast that's what I remember seeing back in the '67's. Might have been aperpot with the full-size Lincoln chassis. Maybe shoulda coulda had a Lincoln 462 V8. A California State Senator, who lived in my neighborhood, had one of these '67's. He'd had Lincoln 4-doors before this but switched to Cadillacs after the T-bird.

"Boulevard Photographic" is a book about the company of the same name. It explains how they became the premier photography studio for the US auto industry, doing their national advertizing, servicing literature, etc. It is mentioned in the book how they would often source female models to pose with the cars from their secretarial pool. Backseat jockey Madam Thunderbird could have been one of these secretaries. The reprisal the owner of this car has is a hoot!

It would have been nice if they continued with 4 dr version of the T-bird. They might have continued making them after cancelling the 2 dr.

Not Suicide doors. Suicide doors were FRONT doors that opened from the front on 2 door vehicles. This vehicle being a 4-door has Coach doors.

My brother had a 67 two door. This car is really well optioned. The owner has had a number of T Birds. Did he want a four door the finish his collection?

Nice car Lou! Next door Neighbor father had one of these and I have the impression that it was very torky and moved quite well for a big car. Was the 427 HO available as an option to the later year T-Birds? Thx again Lou!

Lou!!!! The whole story should have focused on Ford's decision to make a four door T Bird.. I did a search and found that they made a 4 door until 1971. That was so Un T Bird. You showed the power seats but did the car have power windows? Lou you know the cars from the 50's and 60's seldom had power windows and especially A/C. Please delete the tags and focus on the car's functional story. Especially the options unique to the car story. Lou you too often drive me Fing nuts on the stuff you cluelessly overlook.

Ford definitively won that battle (If you could call it, that by 1957) with the Paxton Super Charged 312 Y Block.
