These were actual trucks. Made by a commercial trucking and farming manufacturer. My family had a one ton equipped with a diesel that engine was same they used in large trucks. Had so much horsepower unheard of in diesel engines at that time. The torque of a Mac truck in a pick up. Was the most well built pick up between 58-72 These were actual trucks not automobiles you see under guise of a truck today. Naviststar International comes out every once in a while with special edition international pick ups They also make fords power stroke diesel engines. Their major share holder is cummins. Always been strong trucks. Jyst had poor distribution sold with farm equipment in most places. Couldn’t keep up with big three in sales in that regard. But they still made the best trucks. Others were not overbuilt like IH. Remember pick ups chief job is to haul things and tow things. No trucks did that better than international Harvester.
That's a tough truck, equal to a Ford, stronger than a Chevy, slightly better than a Dodge, better looking than a Toyota and a Nissan truck, Honda....? Forget it , no comparison, because this was a TRUCK!!! I know, I saw them at work pulling heavy loads at farms in Texas and California. The only truck that pulled as good was the Ford. This was in the early 60s.
@@dexterlecter7289 being popular doesn't mean that they are good for pulling or hauling very heavy loads like flat bed trailors loaded with 800+ wooden crates full of table grapes at Appodaca ranch in Indio, calif. or in west texas (Pecos) pulling heavy, heavy loaded trailors of cotton. I was part of a group of loaders (by hand) and we sat back and watched the pick up trucks come and pull the loaded trailors out of the field to the packing warehouse. There were no diesel powered pick ups in early 60s , at least in those ranches. 283, 327,350, 409 , 348, didn't cut it as truck engines. The only GM motor that pulled good was the GMC 6cyl. The 454 wasn't made yet , another problem chevy trucks had was broken axles. We could hear the axles break 100 yards away! The International and Ford trucks kept comming back for more loads. But to be honest, l don't think Ford builds trucks as tough today as those. And International quit building pickup trucks. Toyota and Nissan trucks of today would have done good too. Just my opinion.
