Nothing can compare to the sound of a solid lifter FE Ford. I've worked on plenty of tunnel ports, tunnel wedges, high risers and SOHC's .Remarkable engines and they won a lot of races. Good job.Sounds incredible...........
@@sergeantmasson3669 Not at all. the cammer was only in a Galaxie for testing. Can you answer what two different rocker arms were offered for the cammer?
@@johnkrag6 The 427 SOHC engine was in a NASCAR concept car and not a production car. As for rocker arms, some were adjustable, and some were not. Ford 427 SOHC engine production was discontinued in 1967. Two aftermarket companies still make them today, though. BIG BUCK$.
That was a bad ass motor, very rare too. Came with dual quads. As a mechanic if you had the intake manifold off the intake ports were so large I could stick my hand in the port and hold the valve stem of the intake valve.
Beautiful. Im 16, and my parents want to reward me with one of these stunning machines after i beat cancer this year. I hope mine will look as amazing as this one. :)
Glad you're recovering but this car or anything like it is too much for a 16 year old ,. i have built and driven a number of very hi prof cars and they will can and will kill you . just a word of advice from an old drag racer . Take care .
I simply do not understand how anyone could think this car is not amazing. It's not even a matter of opinion. It is a fact that this car is a beautiful, timeless piece of art.
I think the 427 Thunderbird badge would have looked better in back of the front tire on the front fender... kinda like where the 428 cobra jet badge was placed on the '68 GT500 KR. Just my humble opinion though. An absolutely amazing car and stunning workmanship! Great job!!!
I`ve got a Black 67 Mustang Fastback in a container on a cargo vessel somewhere between LA and Australia at the moment. She`s nowhere near as nice as your ride but I sit and watch this clip every couple of days and dream...Love it!!!
This has got to be one of the nicest presenting cars I've seen. I'm a Mopar guy at heart, but this is stunning! Black on black. And, to have a killer 427 TP/4 spd. to go with it! * * * * *
My older brother bought a Holman&Moody prepped '67 notchback, with this motor, when he got out of the service. Man, I wish I had that car today! Taillights went all the way across the back of the car, I remember that....and the sound.
The teardrop hood scoop was designed for the thunderbolt 427 fairlane .to clear the air box on the daul carb air. Box ..which was adapted to the 63 an 64 galaxy. Then the rest is automotive history
the best looking mustang ever built !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks for sharing this beautiful post !!!! I'm not even a Ford guy ,but; I remember these cars from when I was a kid and I thought that they were fabulous back then !! Thanks for the memories , just can't resist those tunnel ports !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best year Mustang. Best body style. Best colour combination. Best engine. Best classic mag wheels. My first car at 18 yrs old was a black/black '67 Mustang fastback with styled steel wheels. 289 auto. Chix dig it!
I still have out back a 67 Shelby GT 500, 427 TP, that I raced in SCCA and IMSA, including Sebring and Daytona, what a rocket ! Still have all the spares, motors, Holman Moody goodies, maybe one of these days, I put it all back together. Things can happen, but the memories always stay with you.
So clean and so cool! I am not even a big Ford fan. I think this is one of the cleanest and most tasteful Mustang Fastbacks on youtube! Period correct is cool. This is special in so many ways!
Uncle had a silver one with a 427 in it as well we only have one picture of it and ever since I saw the car I’ve been obsessed with fastbacks ever since
Love it....as an old Ford guy I always got a kick out of how Ford rated all the 427's at 425 HP, whether they be low riser, mid riser or tunnel port...obviously the tunnel port had much more H.P. The TP was never put in any car from the factory, you had to order the engine or the parts yourself....extremely rare.
@@edge2sword186 High risers and tunnel ports were never factory rated. Why you ask? Because they never came in a production vehicle sold for street use. The C4 crank is also steel, not cast. The low riser rods also were used in the cobra jet. 13/32 isn't much different than the standard 3/8 rod bolts. The low and medium riser were rated at 425 HP with dual quads, the single quad was rated at 410.
@@mustardstain504d6 You could buy a full size Ford or Mercury with a Hi riser in 1964 .The steel cranks may have come in the later engines but not the early ones .Basically it was a low riser with lighter valve train , bigger intake ports and more compression . The later Le Mans rods were better but the NASCAR rods and crank were the best you could get .I forgot the Cammer had a steel crank and cap screw rods in 1964 .
@@edge2sword186 There was NO vehicle offered with a High Riser except the Thunderbolt. It was not an option in any other Ford vehicle. Most High Riser Heads/ Intakes were sold over the counter at Ford. The valvetrain wasn't lighter Per se. Sodium filled exhaust valves were also known for losing their heads, the intake port The low riser and the high riser don't share anyting from the block up. Le Mans rods were known for shearing off at the necked down shank. NASCAR Rods and crank use a different journal size. They were also not used in any street application from Ford. The SOHC was also never installed in any production vehicle.
@@mustardstain504d6 I remember the 1964 XL wiith a hi riser engine bubble hood and all .Some drilled the exhaust valves to remove the sodium the hollow stemed intakes were lighter ,too. Don't forget the shell type lifters that weighed much less . The Nascar crank had wider bearing width and the rods were a better grade of steel. The bolt stretch method was used instead of a torque wrench on those rods .
no such thing as wider or longer body. there was the ragtop, coupe, and fastback, there were part differences between big block and small block and the gt option had a few special items like different exhaust tips, fog lights, disk brakes, but besides the gt badge and grill and exhaust the bodies were the same. the deluxe interior was my favorite but you could get that in a none gt car. this car rocks the house, one of the best on youtube.
I can't get over people dislike of the mags, back then that was THE wheel!!! and they are still 1 of the best look 'n on these cars 2day!!! And the dislikes of the hood??? God u guys must really be young!!! This is THE hood that came on all the Ford drag cars,it was designed 4 the highrise motor 4 clearance,& draw air.To me these hoods r beautiful, man don't change a damn thing!!!
The mags are dated and there is little available in 14 and 15" wheel sizes for rubber. The " tear drop" hood bubble was never particularly attractive. I am not that young, I just know what works and the day of using Hi jacker air shocks and shackles are gone. The cars handle poorly enough without the aformentioned equation.
@@mustardstain504d6 As good looking as the Cragar SS mags are,I'd thought they would of made these to fit todays popular tire sizes. As for the hood, this came on Galaxies,T-Bolts & Mustangs,I think they still look awesome! I wouldn't use air shocks/ spring shackles for anything! 9 inch,4 link & tubbed!
I keep coming back to see what a real beautiful muscle car looks and sounds like...truly a gem and an Ohio car ta boot...would love to come this Badass Mustang...Jim/Kent ohio
OMG! This is a dream! im really trying to save money for everything you have! my mom was gonna give me her 68' with a rebuilt 289 but sold it to buy furniture. *tear and now i have a nice 85cj7, and im saving for a 427 to have a power house 4x4 and im looking for another mustang to rebuild and this is amazing! im only 17, i would give my left nut for this.
great project...cool ride...awesome hobby that continues to be so priceless to the enthusiast...i love ol' skool nostalgia...thanks for sharing! i'm currently building a 68' eleanor shelby convertible...slowly...lol : )
That's one of those cars you drive and you can't believe the way it pulls. You just keep smiling till you see the red light. The funny thing is a lot of cops look at it and understand. I passed one at 120 and he let me off. The good old days It was at 1:30 in the morning. The cop was a carboy.
