Coming back from a short test drive. Original LA, 273 ci., engine. and 3 speed Torqueflite automatic transmission (A904). 600 cfm Edelbrock 4bbl carb, Edelbrock Performer intake, Headman headers. Air shocks on the rear. Unknown what type of cam is in it. Best of all, Michelob Light aluminum can for the radiator overflow. We received it painted this way (the stripes are awful). I will paint it stock red. It's a project. There are many things to do.

So, what do you think of the 273 ? I have a formula S, 4 speed that I'm trying decide on a motor for. 273, 340, 360, 383, or 440 ? I have a built 71, 360, and a 67, 383.

Hey there. I don't have any experience with any other motor. The drive-train is original to my car, but I'm ok with it for now. If I had any choice, from the little I've read, I'd stick with a sb for sure (to keep power-steering), and a 340 for the best balance of power and drive-ability. Depends what you want to use it for though. If you're drag racing, you'd probably go with the 440 beast.

That's what I'm thinking too. I'm a fan of small blocks.
