Sorry for the length of this video; the length justifies the difficulty completing this set. :). Connect with me at... whitesoxfancardcollector@gmail.com
I know this video is from a year ago, but I'd like to congratulate you on completing it! I think the 1967 is one of Topps' greatest ever. Period. I've actually heard people say they weren't too excited by it, and i'm wondering what they're thinking. The backs of the cards are a classic also. There is no comparison between them and the lackluster green backs of the 1970s. And yes, Mickey Lolich for the Hall of Fame!
Thank you for watching and commenting; I appreciate it. I think 67 is the 3rd or 4th best set of the 60’s. Right up there with 60, 63, and 65 in my opinion.
1967 was hard to complete as far back as the 1970's. In 1975, when I was 13, I had a summer job and used the money I made to try and buy the complete Topps baseball sets from 1974 back to 1968 and, hopefully, 1967. I managed to get them all except 1971 (because I ran out of money) and 1967, because I couldn't find it anywhere as a complete set because the last series was already rare. I knew one place (Wholesale Cards) that would sell you a complete set--minus the last series, for 40 dollars. I should have bought it, but I didn't. I was dumb. They even had 1965 & 66 available, but not 1967. I bought 1968, 69, 70 for 40 dollars each. I think 1971 was 30 and 72 20, so, quickly running out of money, I bought the 72 set, thinking I'd go back some day and get 71, but I never did. 73 & 74 were 10 dollars. I have my original 1971s I pulled from wax packs as a kid, but not a complete set. I do think 1967 was the best looking set Topps ever put out, fronts & backs. I shoulda' bought what was available of it it when I had the chance.
That’s an awesome story; man how times have changed. The internet definitely helped me find the cards I needed, in addition to shows. Thank you for the story, and thank you for watching.
I have Rod Carew PSA 6 authenticated by eBay and Hank Aaron PSA 7 authenticated by eBay as well. 422 cards mostly 60 percent near mint 30 percent excellent -mint and 10 percent excellent condition. Tough set and very expensive.
It is a tough set, I have Don Sutton, Lou Brock, Phil Niekro, Willi McCovey in Excellent mint condition PSA and Joe Morgan PSA near mint condition. Plus Jim Palmer, Ron Santo, Don Drysdale, and Willie Stargel ungraded in my humble opinion in excellent mint condition.
I do appreciate the knowledge you share regarding players and the game. I can tell you are a true collector and that you love the game. Keep the videos coming. Do you have complete sets of many of the Topps run? I have all sets from 1968 to 2019. Dan
I need only 4 cards to complete this set. All of them are in the final series and all of them are pricey(Carew rookie, Seaver rookie, Brooks Robinson, and Mike Shannon). This set looks great due to its simple design. I agree that it's the toughest set to complete by far. I've been set building for 3+ years and working backwards to complete sets. Admittedly I doubt I would have build this set if I wasn't born in 1967. It has still been fun to build though.
You have made a lot of progress! I think the Seaver and Carew are often the last cards for most that have completed it. I appreciate you watching and commenting.
It’s a fun challenge for sure. I found it so satisfying finding those higher numbers as I was nearing completion. Good luck on 67! I’m also planning a livestream on this set soon. Let me know if you might be interested.
Great set and video. That is a hard set to complete. It was my second year of collecting cards as a kid. BTW it's not true about the high numbers not being sold west of the Mississippi. I was living in California at the time and have some of those, including the Brooks Robinson.
Nice video again. Great looking set. I do have a few stars and the complete Red Sox set as they are my favorite team. As I stated in the comments of your 69 set, I acquired the 69 set and built the complete 68 from scratch. A few trivia points you may have an interest in regarding the building of that set. 125 star type cards cost half of the total cost. I bought from 151 different sellers to finish the set ranging anywhere from single card purchases to one seller who sold me over 200 cards. True I spent more than I would have liked to but surely it felt like opening wax packs from way back and worked towards completing the set. My set would probably grade in mid grade condition. I do hope someday to replace my Ryan as it is no better than a 2. Dan
I always have fun opening the lots I bought online and sorting the cards by number. Much easier to get bigger lots in the 60’s and 70’s at a good price than the 40’s and 50’s.
I thought he was going to have wax packs from 1967 to open, it's like a Click Bait 😒 there all insert in a binder plastic sleeves thats more common to find, itll be more rare to see them in wax packs unopen.
Fantastic set, my friend. Always enjoy. You've motivated me to try to finish the 67 high numbers set. I only need about 23 cards and I have the Carew and the Seaver but I do not have the Brooks Robinson or Shannon.
Wow; you’re really close! I’m always so happy to finish the sets. I feel like these cards will be together for as long as I own them, and every set tells a story. Thank you for watching!
