No mention of the sequential rear turn signals on the Cougar? Ford brought them back on the Mustang in the mid 2010s.

Cougar was Not the 1st Ford Product with Sequential Rear Turn Signals, 65 & 66 Thunderbird’s were equipped with Sequential Rear turn signals. The 64 Tbird was supposed to have them but there were some states back then would not allow them but in 1965 they were approved by all the states.

That year Ford sold a street legal Cougar with the 428 SCJ and full drag pak. It really was a race car, the only one to roll out of a dealer with racing tires. I do believe it was the 2nd fastest street car ever for many years. Ford did real sleepers in 1968½, the Continental Mark III had a fully balanced and cc'ed 460... Wtf!!! Happy 2023!

68' Cougar GT-E had two engine options, 427 (Q) code or 428 CJ. Ironically, the 428 is more rare, they just built less of them, than the 427's. I was unaware of the 428 SCJ option for 68'. You might be thinking 1969, but then again, working from memory here, I could be wrong, and am fequently.

@@Johnnycdrums Mine was a 69 428 SCJ, I assumed the 68 was at least that. Assumed only... It (1968)* came with real drag race slicks that made a huge difference. With Ford there were so many specialized cars built. I doubt they have all the records. You would need to have the build sheet in your hand. 68 was crazy. The 1968½ Continental Mark III was available with a balanced and blueprinted 460, that included cc'ing of course. The SCJ was also balanced different than the CJ. At that time the FE motors were faster on the street and most tracks than even the Boss 429. That was really a narrow band high revving NASCAR motor. I always thought the 68 Eliminator with the drag pak included an SCJ, who knows, maybe they did another 1968½ edition, or a Canadian model, mine was... * my memory was that it was a street legal race car running in the 12's much like the totally race ready AMX of the same year. At one time it had the record of the 2nd quickest factory car, mostly due to the soft wall slicks.

@@andykerr3803 ; I read in Mark III Forums that the early 460's, perhaps for the first two years were hand built using selected fits. Wouldn't be surprised if also true for the 1969 429 Thunderbird motor. Which may explain why 69' Thunderbirds seemed to have noticibly more power full than the 1968 428 Thunderbird model. The increase was supposed to equal about 5 hp., but we all know you can't feel a 5 hp. increase in a 4500 lb. vehicle.

@@Johnnycdrums If they took the time to cc the motor, you can imagine what else they did and why. They certainly boosted the compression to the limit and used radical advance, that's why it had to be cc'd. Normally big blocks are built less precisely than say a 289. Not that time. 5 hp? 😂 Yup, sure Bomber McNamara was actually in charge of Ford at the time he insisted on only 2 barrels for the big blocks... 4 barrels were "too complicated" he said. What a company!

@@andykerr3803 ; He served his usefulness, but not before installing a culture of detuning, such as the 430 MEL for the1959 model year, and junking the supercharger kick the enginers had embarked upon.

They should bring this car back using the current Mustang platform as a special edition under the Lincoln Mercury banner

That would be nice, but rear wheel drive V8 coupes are pretty much done except for Mustang and Challenger.

Pony cars were such hot sellers back then, the demand was there for upscale versions of Mustangs (Cougars) & Camaros (Firebirds). Not so much anymore. Automakers make more $$$$ marketing special edition trucks & SUVs.

Those planes are probably still flying, the cars long ago probably crushed.

Car number 5 for me was a '68 like the one @0:39 to 1:04 with the 302. The hood seemed as long as an aircraft carrier.
