My family moved to Vanier in 1975/76 and we lived there until 2006 after my mom passed. Great memories of that little town/city growing up there and i managed to stay close to Vanier even after all my family moved away over the years!

I grew up in Vanier in the 90s. I wish I had this Vanier. It was so beautiful.

I'm living in Vanier now. I've walked by many of these locations often. Surprising how many buildings are unchanged, except for the signs.

Thank you! I was born at Monfort hospital in '57, lived in Vanier, also known as Eastview. So I'm quite familiar with everything shown in this video. My family moved from here in 1968 to Ottawa south suburbs, in the middle of nowhere, lol! Btw it was great to view the house that I was born in and to view a general store that me and my young friends used to frequent as a children.

Btw, I recall the old gentleman as very nice and wise like a favourite grandfather, he was so nice, but he also knew how to draw the line and put his foot down with us kids, and so kind! I used to live only 4 doors away from this store at that time, it's also where I had my first sweetheart at age 7, she lived across the street from me. She was more crazy about me than I was about her, and she was very cute and attractive. She was strictly French speaking, I was perfectly bilingual, I had mastery over both languages. What happened? Lol! Her parents moved real far away. Lol!

@James T Griffith I recall the base in my time quite well too, great place to visit. I seem to recall attending profession race car competition once? They closed off the runway and redesigned it for race car events when they occurred. Me and my young friends would bicycle up there and have great views. I recall the hangers, but not open to the public to see inside back then. All the best!👍

That photo of "Deschamps and Derosier" is actually Deschamps and Ann street. I grew up in the upstairs apt in the house on the left right on the corner at 136 Deschamps street and was living there at age 6 when that photo was taken. How weird to see it in on YT 52 yrs later.

At that time, I lived above a garage at Montreal Road and Durocher. At 5, I walked alone to J.O. Swerdfager and recall the train tracks that are now the Vanier Parkway. Thanks for posting.....

Salut Jean, tu dois être parenté avec Paul. Thanks for the memories. That's my era. I've walked and played on most if not all of those streets. I was living in that funny looking house on Montfort when that picture was taken. My dad used to call it the "cheese house". I was about 12 or 13 at the time.

Nice, to see how a bunch of poor kids grow up learning to share life, help, and support communities. I was 11 back then. Talented pianist. Thank you

My mother grew up on Carlota St right next to McArthur Ave and she would tell me about some of the businesses that were around during this time period. Nostalgic.

I am wondering what else you have. My dad was professional musician living on Carillon late 1960s until his untimely death of 28yrs old in 1971. What are the odds one of these videos might have caught him (maybe his name on a marquees... he played a lot at The Alexandria Hotel (besides playing in other venues). Wayne Tender professional name Wayne Latendresse real name.

When were the red "Don't Walk" and green "Walk" phased out in the Ottawa area? I grew up elsewhere in Canada and remember there being a couple of small cities in Canada that still had them in the early 2000s.
