There will be several videos in this sequence. I wanted to drive an old truck with the dependability of a newer one. This will be the answer for me. Placing a 1968 GMC on a 2006 Chevy 2500HD chassis.
127" wheelbase?! Hey, my Tacoma crewcab is 127.5". ... Hmmm Maybe time to disturb people on both sides... Tacoma with a fullsize chassis, and some low-tech power like a 383 with carb and badass exhaust!
AAAGGGHHH, you cut up a Georgia- clean GM cab off the chassis!! You could have financed the whole project by selling that clean cab up here in New England. You probably could have gotten a rusted out one to take home with ya. Up here we can take those rusty GM Ford Mopar cabs off with an air hose! I like the project. looks cool. Love the old stuff.
You said in your intro you wanted to drive an old truck with the dependability of a new truck ,I don't know about that I owned a 79 ford for 30 years and it never let me down , and as for dependability of new trucks well I don't think they are
TheFrameoff I agree to a point. Having had many old trucks, I have similar thoughts. The problem for me is being able to use the old trucks the way I want. I tow frequently, and I've had to do panic stops when somebody pulled out in front of me. Modern ABS is a wonder of engineering. I like having fuel injection, and overdrive. I like turning the key on a cold morning, and the truck fires right up. If you see my other videos, you'll see I love old cars and trucks. It wouldn't be so bad if I could count on everybody else driving the way I do...
Nice work Jjo daddy! You're inspiring me. I want a 58-59 Apache and will be exploring the idea of using my 2001 tahoe as a donor. I've driven it for 100k and it has been a great car. Not worth much with 200k on it. What are your thoughts?
You should leave those torsion bars alone and come back behind them and cut the frame and go back 23 and 1/2 and scab the frame in and do a one piece driveshaft do away with the carrier bearing
Jo Daddy's Garage it's ok, was just saying that as I may need to do a cab swap (rotted floor) and there's not a good video out there for even at least the removal process (reinstallation would then be easy, just watch the vid in reverse lol)
GA lmao, was gonna say that stuffs looking pretty rust free was wondering where you were, I'm in MN and it's rust city for me to start similar ideas on my 58 apache
did u sell off the front seat's & console or u still have them all...... either way how much & what do they look like ... esp,. the drivers side seat & the console is it a combo where u have the lil jump seat & on top u have the normal console built into it.............?????
I have an '88 Chevy 1500 single cab step side 4x4 that I am toying with the idea of getting a 2500 parts truck and converting my 1/2 ton to a 3/4 ton by changing the running gear. I think everything will interchange but not sure.
me and my boss started a project like this funnily enough we called it the frankenchevy lol it's a 05 2500hd 6.0 4x4 truck with a 69 cab and front clip. that's as far as we took it. really cool that someone else had the same idea
+tunercars3 Well, I got the truck pretty cheap, and if you see the rest of the build, I had a plan in mind. A standard cab truck wouldn't do what I needed.
Son don’t feel bad about not getting help I have to do all mine by myself to bad we anit closer I’m working on my 66 Ford 100 by myself among other stuff
Just curious why you didn't mold the floor and firewall from the silverado to the c10? I'm looking at doing the same project soon and considering how to go about it.
