La prima Mercedes di 4 di mio padre, la prima auto che ho guidato, cambio automatico come questa, colore beige con tettino testa di moro, auto elegantissima. La stella a 3 punte non si batte e ora sono a 4 stelle anche io. Bellissima.
Had the 220 D 1968 , bought from taxy driver in 1988, had 1.2 million km , the model I had from 1968 did not have head rest on seats . Yours is excellent restored and upgraded :)
In Germany they were called "Strich Acht" (Strich = slash, Acht = eight) because the year they were first built: 1968. This one is also one of the very first.
I have to admit: they look like "sad", boring cars. But the good point is that they are eternal. For a modern car, surviving 10 years and 200.000 km., avoiding a major breakdown around 100.000, is a great goal. For a car like this Mercedes, 200.000 km. it is literally time to bring it to the dealer for the first service.
