That looks fantastic Joe, great work. I have used the rust encapsulator and painting over with good results. If painting red I will use a white sealer. The white makes the red brighter and more vibrant. The black will make it a little darker. Omni paint is thin, takes a few coats to cover. Looks great!
Thanks Doug! I absolutely agree. My grandpa would paint over gold on the cars he wanted to pop. He even mentioned the days of crushing glass in some jobs 😵💫
Very nice, Joe! Great work and a fabulous color. My first Mopar musclecar, my '69 Dart Swinger 340, was R6 red. It is by far my favorite Mopar red, and it will really pop on this notchback. I think the 2nd generation Barracudas were the nicest A-bodies; lots of chrome details, full instrumentation, elaborate grills, and very nice flowing styling in all three body types. Plymouth was usually positioned below Dodge in price class, but this was reversed in the late '60s A-bodies; the Darts do not have the styling and details of the Barracudas (although a Dart GTS is pretty close). Anyway, you are once again doing a fantastic job turning this car into a stunner. It is a pleasure to watch someone with both talent and passion doing a job they love.
Hey Joe, Tim here, i dig that ur gonna keep removin old seam sealer.....it aint doin nothin.....and its the RIGHT way to go.......i personally like a black engine bay, but what ya got is a mix of what shud be black, and what shud be body color......hope ur man likes it factory, so u can do the proper thing......i've watched all the vids with this car, and i LOVE the car, even bein a Poncho nerd......i like them ALL.....put the PROPER colors that are supposed to be there back on, and it'll look AMAZING!!!...GOOD stuff Joe.....just LOVE it!!!....PEACE my brother!!
Those old cars were crude, they threw them together fast and even from the factory the gaps were rarely great and like you showed the seam sealer sometimes looked like Stevie Wonder was runnin the gun for the day. Looking great, it’ll be better than new when you’re done! 👍
Damn thats looking sharp!!! Good trick with the black over the undercoat and then the red on the rest. That paint will help keep it from chipping off anymore for sure. I know you said you aren't going for showcar quality but isn't it always rule of thumb to stop at the pinch seam where the door seal goes around? (just like you did here) Plus, on the spots that lost the undercoating I used flexseal... yeah seriously. You can build it up with several coats and it wrinkles just like the old tar stuff thats on the car still. There is a product out there that re-laminates the stickers. I might have mentioned it on the last sticker vid on the blue truck. Its just a simple glue you brush on and let soak the sticker and then a thin plastic over the top, apply a heatgun for a few minutes (like they do those car wraps) and its re-coated and saved.
Thanks brother! I remember that about the stickers bow that you mention it. I always spray past the lines just a bit. This one needs more blocking and priming, so I know I’ll have to mask accordingly. It’s so easy to shoot the jambs and under fender at the same time. I couldn’t resist! Lol

Man that looks good Joe... you using a hvlp gun? I shot my quarters tonight with a LVLP gun in single stage red and it came out so bad i wanna grind em back down.. need to figure whats going wrong. Either orange peel or runs.. no in between
Wow man! I shot the black with a cheaper hvlp. I shoot my color with my Inest Iwata that my dad had. It’s a nice gun. Maybe play with gun speed when you’re having runs. I usually do my hvlp guns with more of a football shaped spray pattern and open the iwata up some and tighten my overlap.
Well, 😊 maybe it was a Monday Morning 🌄 and the seam sealer guy gave his ALL over the weekend to the Drinkie Poo God (Whomever he believes that entity is)🍷 and he went back to sleep momentarily with caulking gun until he heard the first break buzzer 😊 Got to admit he was thural 😅
