I only ever saw a Super Alpine 370 once in my life in early 1975, it was a late '60s model still used as a workhorse to drag the water-hoses up the hill at the local ski area for snowmaking. It was also used to pull the Ski Patrol stretcher up and down the hill when someone broke a leg, and had to be taken to the Ambulance waiting in the parking lot. Plenty of power, and no doubt you could drag a small tree out of the bush with one of these bad-boys.

Yeah they are super slow, but really lots of torque. Well, lots of torque for a 1960's machine!!! 18.5hp going 15mph flat out!!!

I really enjoyed your video getting the old '68 Ski-Doo Alpine running again, I can remember these machines in the late '60's in the dealer as new snowmobiles for sale. I was hooked by that time at 14 years old and the first sled I owned was a Sno-Jet 440 wide-track around 1971, then in 1974 I purchased a Rupp Nitro II 440 and still have it to this day! For the gas in the mouth problem when siphoning can be remedied by using a longer piece of clear hose so you can see the fuel coming and get the hose end out of your mouth.....my other advice is if you haven't already, use the ethanol-free fuel, that's available here in Denver Colorado, in these old sleds, makes a difference as the ethanol eats up the rubber fuel lines and it loves water......my $0.02 cents worth.
@mattsws
@mattsws 2 года назад
Wow! Thanks for such a nice comment! I really enjoyed riding the Alpine 2 years ago when this video was shot. Haven’t ran it since, but I want to take it out at least one this year… I use ethanol free fuel in all my small engines so I don’t have to worry if they aren’t started in a year or so. For the gas line, I was lazy and used an old piece of “new” hose that was all yellowed out, so I paid the price and got a mouthful… Glad to year you still have your 74!!! Do you still use it once and a while or is it stored away, just waiting to be revived!?! Thanks for watching!!

@@mattsws Our very first snowmobile was a 67 Alpine. 299cc 14horse single cly.rotax in 1970. Then my Dad got the 65 Chalet 8hp rotax in 1971. As a youngster back then I had alot of fun with them. Awesome sleds they were. At one time we had the 65 Alpine 10horse and the 69 640cc Alpine 40horse, also.

very nice old sleds..ive had a few of those lol..very interesting video, i would show how the old sleds break a trail compaired to the new sleds that just dig there own grave leaving or breaking a trail from dead start ..and they dont have no front belly pan to hold them up. the old sleds could float on the snow ive seen new sleds that have no front belly pan under them and they just get buried in the deep snow. im in maine and ive seen a bit of snow in my time lol..i was born in 72 so ive seen the old sleds do alot..alot more than these sleds that need parts all the time the new sleds allways have somthing that goes to heck or eat tons of fuel..nope id take a old skido or an old cat 440 any day over these computer infected no grip sleds they make now, after all your running sleds there on this video that are over 40 years old still running! thank you for your video :)

I've just found your channel and quite enjoy the content and straight forward approach. I've got a few Arctic Cats from the 70's and just picked up a 72 Lynx. I wanted to share with you the experience I had with a friend last weekend who collects Cat's . He has 8 in his garage, most of them are wide mouth Puma's... but the real gems are the two he has 70 and 71 that have never been fueled up and run outside of the factory. Brand new and waiting for a rip. Anyway Just thought I'd let you know you have a good channel. I'm in Saskatchewan.

Have never run thinner than 32:1 oil mix in those old sleds! They say the oil is better today...that isn't the issue...its the old style bearings and bushings in the engine your dealing with,and a less effecient oiling system!

Any older Bombardier, has a lighting coil, with no regulator, it is matched to the head lights and tail lights combined wattage, the headlights are normally around 35 watts, but the tali light bulbs are only 1 watt each, so if you blow a head lights bulb, or in your case don't have them hooked-up the extra amperage has no where to go and toasts the rear bulbs, led or incandescent.

I never understood why Skidoo put 370 opposed engines in those Alpines. Big old tanks like that need Rotax 640 big blocks to push them well. Cool anyways. Never seen a Rotax opposed run in person.
@mattsws
@mattsws 2 года назад
They started using them in 67 in Alpines and a few Olympiques. During 1967 and 1968 the 370 was one of the biggest engines available… In 1969 they came out with the 669 that was offered in the Tnt. That pretty much spelled the end of the 370 and Alpines began getting fitted with big blocks in the early 70’s. The 370 is an awkwardly cool engine if you ask me, but as you mention, they won’t give you too much in terms of power and speed in an Alpine. Thanks for watching!!!

Great channel, I enjoy your content. Now, you did it Wrong. Please stop doing it Wrong. Gasoline has been linked to both blood and neurological problems. Make your siphon tube longer and put a loop or two in the line. Then suck on the tube and the fluid in the loops will allow you enough time to pull away before you get a mouth full. Done.
