I would imagine the generosity of so many viewers, subscribers, fans, and friends contributing to his go fund me, likely eased A LOT of stress in his life so that he can recover even more quickly. I never contributed to one before. I had to look in to how to do it. It was surprisingly easy. I didn't want to be left out of this worthy cause.

High Octane Classics should put the link to Steve's go fund me in the description of all future videos. It's an absolute miracle this man is still with us, and icing on the cake that he's back doing what he loves. God bless the medical people who kept this good man alive. This tragedy has now become the feel good story we so desperately needed. Steve, your recovery is also healing us. Thank you.

I prefer your phrase for the hood scoops - "Ram air for the people". Stunning color combo and the 4 speed/396 would be a LOT of fun with the A/C making it comfortable. You're looking better every day, keep healing. Thank you again High Octane Classics ~ Chuck

Good to see you back as usual.... We got the VIN (from the HOC website), we win: 1 for Chevrolet, 36 for Malibu V8, 37 for two door sport coupe, 9 for 1969 model year, K for Kansas City, MO assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Kansas City (Leeds), MO plant operated from 1929 until 1988 and was closed as it was landlocked and could not be expanded. It was only recently knocked down. We got (from the HOC website), the tag, we can brag: ST69 for 1969 model year, 13637 for Chevrolet (1) Malibu (36) two door sport coupe (37), KAN for Kansas City (Leeds), MO assembly, 765 for Metallic Blue coated fabric bucket seat interior trim, 51 for Dusk Blue lower exterior paint, E for Parchment vinyl top, 01E for the fifth week of January 1969 production, L for Malibu V8 sport coupe, among other codes.

My first ride was a '68 SS Chevelle, and I was always jealous of the 69 and 70 models. I thought they just nailed the styling in those years. Great car, and great vid, Steve!!

My parents had a 396 Chevy station wagon. It had to be one of the quickest wagons ever made by anyone. It would wipe the eyes of a later smog-motor Plymouth 440 wagon we had.

The Chevelle SS 454 in 1970 was in my opinion by far and away the best looking muscle car of that era. I know it was not the fastest, but it was the best looking. Especially in red with a black vinyl top and black stripes. Oh to have one today.

Hey Steve. That is a sweet car. The first thing I see when I look at a classic car is the wheels/tires. If it has ghettos, I don't give it a second look. That one may not have the proper wheels for the year, but they are not larger than 15" in diameter, so they are not ghetto. BFG Radial T/A RWL tires no less. Beautiful.

Always EXPERT details of these Chevelles, thanks to Steve! I like the color of this '69 and happen to own the El Camino SS 396 version in the same color. Thanks for defining the availability of the SS in post form (300 deluxe) as well as correct snorkel air cleaner on the 325 hp version of the 396. Speedy recovery, Steve!

Those stock munci shifters sucked. I had one in my 69 elco with an m20. They were mounted to the crossmember, not the trans itself. At high rpm they would bind up and miss third every time. My car had a pretty hot lil small block that would rev to 7200. I ditched that shifter for the classic hurst super comp shifter. World of difference.

I’ll be driving one of these beasts in a little over a week - Frost Green with a black vinyl top! Unfortunately, it will be to take the owner’s ashes to the cemetery and their final resting place……..☹ RIP, Johnny - I wish we still had many more afternoons in the garage ahead of us……..😢

After things settle down with his family, maybe offer to buy the car. Nothing will do your departed friend better justice than to have his pride and joy in the hands of a friend who will take care of it.
