Cool van, I have a 69 108 my dad gave me in 1991 for my high school graduation present. Those big bolts were almost impossible to remove back in the 1990s when the vans were not half as old as they are now. Seeing your video reminds me I have to start fixing my baby , my dad had the wood panels mirrors and a had curtains behind the front seats and covering the side and rear door windows. I took everything out, put solid side and rear panel doors and my van has been empty inside for 30 years . Are you going to re panel her inside again ? I like my van just metal inside but may put indoor outdoor carpet in her back one day but I like my vans with no side or rear windows for looks
Very cool ! That bolt was hell to get off. I still have many more to do. I think the rear was the only ones with rust though. The van is still super clean for her age. I do plan on tricking out the interior. Panel is definitely a possibility but I’m thinking I’d like to do a diamond tuft type thing. Yet I’m not too sure how that will pan out. I will at least give it a try. I still have all the old panel pieces so I plan on using that as a template for the new set up.
@@johnmartin5153 I gave up on trying to remove the rear jam latch bolts and had someone my dad knew with a body shop take them out. Just as bad as trying to remove the rear door pins on an ASTRO van. I think the diamond tuck pattern would look cool ,for me u fortunately all the panels I took out of minewhen my dad gave her to me in 1991 are long gone but all these years and I still have her origonal side and rear doors with windows but My sister who has them in Arizona said she does t see her side pipes that my dad had put on he said in 1976 but I didn't ever plan to put them back on just keep her doors and pipes and maybe when I got older I could change my mind. I enjoyed your video, I may make one of me starting the 5.3 LS swap in my 06 rt magnum wagon with an dead hemi or whenever she is done but you can't finish if you don't start and my magnum wagon and 84 camaro z28 are a ways away at my friends house/shop my dad doesn't need smog here so the city can't complain I keep her insured and tagged which is not cheap to have her here and we have a big property
@@rscamarolover yeah man I’d like to get some side pipes on mine eventually. If you ever need measurements for the interior paneling let me know. I could measure it for ya. Was taking the doors off a pain ? How did you get the handles off in the interior. I see a clip in there do I need to pop that clip off ? I feel ya I restored a old super beetle and kept it insured and registered for years while I was doing it. It was the most expensive part of the job. I can say though , it’s good motivation to get er done.
@@johnmartin5153 Yes all the inside handles have a horseshoe type clip in the back, they sell the tool to pop them off at autozone . You can use a thin flathead screwdriver also. The older 1st Gen flat window 64-66 vans and some early 2nd gens 67 only have à small screw to hold the inside handles on I like those better . It's hard to believe I've now had my van longer than my dad had her he got her in Nov 68 until June 1991 so around 23 years and I've now had her for 31 years come June will be 32 years .
