You've never seen me in my Kenne Bell equipped, overcarbureted, Buick 225 'Odd Fire' powered (4 spd, Warn OD) flatfender with windshield down, goggles on, letting 'er rip. She does dance a lot at speed. It's a blast!
I’m not sure I agree. Something might not be right with yours. I have a 67 cj5 with the v6, and overdrive, and it’s fine at 75 on the interstate. I have a 46 2a that is a death sentence above 55 (with overdrive), however, and I get you there, but not with the cj5 at all.
Put the 304 rear in and convert spline.. shorter ratio, then more leafs on suspension to beat shake. I use to do 80MPH across Arizona in a 79 with 258 and that config with a t400 converted for the borg non vacuum tcase. Better MPG too; shorter duration cam to move HP up too You have to fabricate gears and suspension frames to beat that on a cj7
Wow much more stable and calm than my 72. I have a three speed and it's screaming at 60. Also the pucker effect is strong while driving. Even with a stearing stabalizer it wanders where it wants to. I mean 10 and 2 always. Is this normal? And hard to stop. Drum brakes completely replaced and reworked and I have to damn near stand on the pedal.
A good rebuild should fix slop if it’s a Ross box but, even at their best they will always have a bit of free play, it’s just in their nature by design. I have a Ross box on my ‘65 and I installed a Tightsteer unit and it made a HUGE improvement. 50+mph and she’s straight and true. Also check tie rod ends, drag link, kingpin bearings (on Dana 27 closed knuckle) and ball joints (on Dana 30 open knuckle), etc. A ‘72 will have Saginaw steering, I’m not sure you can “adjust” those boxes.
I bought a 75 cj5 three years ago. It did the semi lane changing thing. I drove it home, SLOW and the steering sector adjustment screw need made snug. Loosen Jam nut and turn with large screw driver. Problem solved! I had a 76 in 1976 and kept it in the mud. It started doing the weave. We replaced the front wheel bearings and tightened the steering sector screw. That fixed that one. Tim Ryan
Cindi Ryan Yes that was it. Loosened a five eights nut and tightened a flat head screw then retightened the nut. There is an access hole in the front bumper to do it. Night and day difference. Thank you.😊 Now for the disk brake conversion. Lol
I just got a 66 tuxedo park Mark IV with the v6. It has no issues getting to 70mph without an OD. (Supposedly the V6 tux park should have 3.73 gears instead of the 4.xx gears of the standard V6 or the super low 5.38 of the F head 4cyl) but i still want an OD for long trips (im an hour and a half from the beach). My jeep is a little twitchy at 70...but not terrifying. I have a tightsteer comming...cant wait to install it. You look like you are living the dream right there.
@@TheG60528XiJinPing You're kidding, of course, but actually a 'stock' three speed CJ5 has six forward gears, two reverse as the Spicer 18 transfer case adds an underdrive ('Lo') range to each gear. Per the video description, this one has a Warn overdrive which adds an overdrive range to each of the transmission gears for a total of nine forward, three reverse. My current 'flatfender' runs a hopped up 225 with four speed and Warn OD for a total of twelve forward gear ranges, three reverse.
