I simply love this channel. It's not about who has the most expensive car or which goes the fastest. It's about the love for cars and that is something i can totaly relate to.
I agree, this channel is more about purism. These cars are more unique than the latest Ferrari or Lamborghini and the owners simply share their passion instead of showing off. It just doesn't feel like they are talking about a car, but more about a work of art.
I almost have to agree with Windvale - it was very nice to see a regular guy and not a millionaire with a garage full of classics. IMO this owner's was some of the most sincere commentary I've seen so far. Just a guy who loves his car and probably has the scars on his knuckles to prove it.
The more I watch this channel the more I want to have a old classic car .. to feel and experience of having a American Culture / history can’t wait .. top favorites for sure
I'm more of a British/European sports car guy and never had much interest in American muscle cars. However I can appreciate any good car story. This car may not be my thing but I love it when an owner loves his car like this guy loves his Cyclone. A great car story is a great car story, no matter the make/model. And Petrolicious is best when conveying the relationship between a car and an owner who clearly loves it. It's getting boring to say every week, but another fantastic video by Petrolicious!
I couldn't agree more, looking forward to a new video every week. Guys like Cy are the true car guys, not those collectors that stash them away in a big garage afraid to drive the Yenko, Shelby or Mopar because they shelled out hundreds of thousand of dollars.
I think half a car is its story. A car can look great, be great, feel great, work great, but devoid of ... context, story, life, it's just a hunk of metal, plastic, and rubber. Whether your story, or someone else's, the car becomes much more with it.
CarburetorCulture Same here, I daily drive mine to high school and way too many times have I locked up the brakes or almost been rear ended by some distracted driver.
@@jlopez1017d I post the same comments all the time. Unfortunately I live in Los Angeles as well. It is very nerve racking driving here. People don't care or respect about other people on the road. I always keep a good distance away from the vehicle in front of me, but pretty much at the mercy of any idiot or tailgater behind me.
I'm not a huge muscle car guy, i generally don't get it, but this dude, he summed it up perfectly at the end. They add a zest to life. I love that. He is awesome.
The Cyclone Cobra Jet isn't really an oddball.. It was raced in NASCAR alongside its sister-car, the Ford Torino Talladega. The reason it was even sold with the 428 CJ was to homologate it for use in NASCAR. But I do agree that I'd love to see more American Classics on Petrolicious :D
@@vtr0104 Mercury had a Cyclone with the extended & lowered front fenders, which was actually the sister car of the Talladega, not the same Cyclone as in this video.
I liked this guy’s attitude. He loks like a very down to earth and peaceful, loving human being. He loves driving his Mercury, you can tell by the looks on his face. Thank you for the great content.
I'm not usually the one who leaves a like or comments, but I really loved this video. The atmosphere is so incredibly soothing and the guy talking was so down to earth and seemed genuinely nice. Don't get me wrong I like every video you produce but this time it was really something special. The car is something you don't see often on here and the owner doesn't come off as posh like in some of your other videos.
Just listening to how much this thing means to him... There's always been a small part of me that enjoyed muscle cars, but I can feel how much this guy loves it just by the way he talks. Truly special
I like it when the video is on point, owner talking about car and a lot of footage of said car. Prefer it any day over some car-related purple poetry and artsy talk.
That was such a cool time in American automotive history, you could walk into a dealer and order a Big Block, 4 Speed, Station Wagon, in a custom color and no AC just because dad wanted a NASCAR with room for 7.
Beyond the beautiful video, but we are used to it, I was moved because for the first time, I see a passionate driving his car accompanied! Often when I enjoy the beautiful little roads of France, driving my vintage, I would like to share these moments. They must be even more tasty. Thanks again to the Petrolicious guys.
This gentleman reminds me so much of my old automotive teacher from high school. A laid back fellow who loved his special car more than anything. Growing up I was into import cars, but my automotive teacher took me for a ride in his Factory Five Cobra, and it opened my eyes to the world of V8's and muscle cars. I am forever thankful for my time with him as he has grown my appreciation for classic American muscle. Would love to just sit down and talk cars with old timers him.
gotta say i like this guy. a true car enthusiast and so right about a good many things. i'm a road runner/mopar guy but respect what other brands (especially fomoco) had to offer.
The late sixties Mercury Cyclone was a car in itself. A beautiful piece of car art with a 429 Cobra Jet. Wonderful American engineering and horsepower. We are having more of that today. Wow...the horsepower available is crazy. Yeas so is the price. Can't afford a muscle car today like you did yesterday. It's a house mortgage payment for a car nowadays. The styling of the older cars goes past anything now.....the newer cars cannot hold the stylistic beauty.
It just goes to show the production value of this video and how relaxed this guy was that, even though I wasn't particularly interested in the car, I could happily have watched for another 10 minutes.
Yet again Petrolicious does it again. These are hands down the best car videos. What a cool car and great owner. I look forward to these videos so much.
The year was 1969. I was 19 years old and still living at home driving a old slow '57 Chevy with a 283 V-8. The hot shot car salesman across the street drove one of these home as a loaner for a weekend. 427 4bbl carb Hi-Perfomance 390hp He gave me and a younger neighbor kid a ride to show it off...... WOW,,,,, what an amazing car.
This is the car I would love to own. I was testing 1972 Buick Riviera and still planning to shoot 1970 Riviera with 455 cu and 370 horsepower. If you ever try US big block, nothing compares to the feeling. Nowadays cars are more like fast train, but these are the cars you can hear and feel. Nice story!
I feel like I say this every week but this was another fantastic film. Great job at conveying the love of ownership in this one too. I love seeing all the super rare exotics and European stuff but the old American cars hit me right in the feels since that's what I grew up on.
Fantastic story.....I love all the Petrolicious enthusiasts stories.....Most car people have identical DNA....This is what makes this hobby so much fun. You always connect with someone and have instantly a common point of view in life.....regardless where you came from......
This is the kind of guy I really connect with I’ve got my Gran Torino and such it’s meant to be driven. I rag on mine though and drive it hard sometimes but I always make sure at the end of the day if something is broke it gets fixed and the car is taken care of
I have been lucky enough to see only two real not clone Cyclones in my life and I'm 62 years old. I got the chance to drive twice a 1970 Torino Cobra Jet with the 429 Super Cobra Jet and it had the factory Drag Pack, 4 speed and 430 rear gears. Talk about a blast so much neck snapping torque. Please enjoy the car, so rare.
A wonderful video ! Thank you so much for sharing this. A childhood friend of mine had a 1969 Mercury Cyclone CJ 428 in a burnt orange color with black interior. Amazing sound, amazing looks, and amazing performance. They are a rare breed and I have not seen many of these around in the last many years. This brings back very good memories for me. I would love to own one of these. Thank you again for this. I can relate to the owner of this car. I feel the way he does.
Gorgeous machine, cool owner. This video brought me back to Petrolicious. Re-subscribed! I’m sure plenty of people disagree but there’s nothing more exciting and/or more comforting than the rumble of a big chunk of V8 on the other side of the firewall. I could listen to that 428 all day at any RPM, any throttle position.
I have a stock '68 Fairlane fastback and rolling down the road at 55 mph with the windows down you can hear the birds chirping on the side of the road. It also weighs 3300 lbs and get 20+ mpg running 70 mph on the interstate with a 302, C4 and 2.79 gears. I do wonder how long that big bright orange CJ sat in the dealership selling more mundane versions of Mercs.
Awesome! I can almost smell the unburnt gas fumes coming through the screen! I had a 1969 Firebird with all drum brakes and if I ever got another old car I think I'd do a disc conversion. Just for peace of mind.
The car was meant for pure, unadulterated violence. Petrolicious makes it as relaxed and as warm as the late afternoon sun as it sinks in the West. Beautiful composition, as always.
On your comment about your car having drum brakes all round, my 1968 Mercury Cyclone GT with just the 390 engine had disc brakes up front. The automatic transmission was awesome. Like your color. Mine was gold.
I like this guy. Why buy a car you're not going to drive? You can drive it and still take care of it. There's a real American with a real American car.
