Fond memories! I lived in my 1965 V W Camper in Boulder Colorado for a year in the early 70's. I went to work and camped in Boulder Canyon. Winter was my time.

Doobie is in great shape for a '69! No rust and the engine looks completely rebuilt. Looking forward to seeing your travels! :-)

Nice bus. Currently own a 73 Westy, but have had buses for over 20 years. Traveled all over the country in them. Just service it, enjoy the drive. If something breaks, stay chill and fix it. Best wishes and happy trails. Adventures await!! Chuck in Kentucky.

I've never been inside of a VW bus before, but it reminds me of the Airstream my parents had when I was younger. I've always wanted to get one of these and go on the road with it. I think I'm going to start putting money aside so that once I'm out of college, I can buy one of these and travel the US, me and the missus (as soon as I get one of those as well).

Before you hit the road trip . Get a repair manual and few spare parts . There are lots of you tubes like ,VW life to help with this . I have been driving buses for 50 years .You are going to break down ,and need to know how to help yourself. Good luck, your going to need it.

you dont have to change transmission fluid again. Its not like the motor oil. Also I dont think the sixty nine came with a 1600. Not sure. Also if you put the heater boxes you will get all kinds of toxic fumes in the bus unless you restore the entire system. Just use electric heaters. Kinda funny that you two took off in the bus with so many issues or doing a full check on everything before driving across the country. I guess that is one way of doing it and not letting anything stopping you from taking off. there are so many more issues, but I will save them. oh and I wouldn't put the cabinet, it blocks your visibility and it doesn't give you that much more storage. You could probably put things on the roof on that rack. This video is a year old so I"m sure you have already figured all this stuff out by now. I also have a sixty nine, but mine is a westy.

What is bear spray? Is that literally to keep away bears?? Seems so unusual as I live here in the UK 🇬🇧 and we have no bears here lol. 🤣 Must say it's a real straight bus to begin with. I had to do alot of welding and panels replaced due to it being the UK and the weather is shocking generally.. but gave me the option to paint it as a genuine hippy bus. I just hand drew the designs I made on A4 paper and transferred the design by hand. Electrical issues. Every Vw has Electrical issues I am sure of it ah ha 😄😄 Top fun. Don't sell it though. How does the fridge work?

People in Florida don’t know how to drive; crazy....😉. Also, try to clean up inside the engine compartment as best as you can. You want the cleaner fresh air you can get in there.

I hate all the original internal parts. I'd have to rip all that out and start from fresh. That stuff would sell to other campers for a good price, that you could put back into building your van.

1968 --I averaged 63 mph Anchorage to San Diego. The only failure was a front wheel cylinder.

When we made our 4200 mile trip in a 1968 bus, I was able to cruise at 63 mph.

I laughed at the 3 keys, I have a 67 beetle and both doors and ignition are all different, 3 keys
