I was on a fire at the head of Trinity Lake in 1961 where they had a B17 dropping Borate fire retardant. It came in over the top of the ridge about 400 feet above us and dropped it's load. When the pilot gave it full throttle to get away from surrounding ridges, the sound was unbelievable. Great memories.
That was a B-17, not flying at an air show, nor at a museum; but continuing to pull big loads, decades after its production. Well done, conserving film while recording in 1969 so that enough film roll remained that one can piece the events together later. And well done preserving the film over the years for me to browse through.
I was in Santee when that fire occurred. That looks like what I saw as the fire crested the hills just east of El Cajon. That fire then moved southwest and reached the outskirts of Lemon Grove.
