Hi Tony, thanks for the video I have the 10 MHz distribution amplifier and it works well. Just a note the links in the description for the "Distributer" and "Distributer" 0- 200 MHz are the same. Again thanks for posting.

I built a 10 Mhz distribution amplifier into my gpsdo using a high speed op amp gives 4 extra outputs & is a sine wave, works for me as I only need 10 Mhz, thanks Tony

How high is the signal output from these? I saw one video that said its 6V / 14dbm. I dont think 14dbm is 6v pp. Anyway is the output level low enough to connect to equipment without using Attenuators?
@TonyAlbus
@TonyAlbus 2 года назад
its 5 pp i seen on the website.. i just connect all my devices without any problem without attenuators.

Can an active gps antenna be used or just passive? I saw somewhere that there is power on the antenna jack for using an active antenna. Is this true?
@TonyAlbus
@TonyAlbus 2 года назад
@@51nw this is only distributing.. but most of gpsdo are active and also an antenna is sent with it.

Your impedance will not be correct and you could have reflections in your line, but if it works.

I’ve watched this video 3x - another great video! Is the first link in the description to the amplifier with built in band pass filter? Thank you!
@TonyAlbus
@TonyAlbus 4 месяца назад
Hi Randall, yes the first is with bandpass, i think they are available with and without OCXO, for distributiuon you can have the one without OCXO the second is a so called trigger signal distributer, it distribust 0-200 MHz in square without filter, cheaper and great for other then 10 MHz signals.
@ivolol
@ivolol Год назад
The very definition of producing a good square wave output is to have strong odd harmonics, that is how a square wave is built. If you don't have them, you don't have a square wave. So I was bemused by you talking about the first schmitt trigger buffer distributor, but be concerned about its harmonics. If it didn't have those, it wouldn't be doing a good job!

Tony, when you plug a BNC into your distribution amps up on the shelf, they don't slide around. How do you fix them without any obvious brackets? Thanks for an informative video. It helped me choose the right unit for my application.

Hello Toni, which is better, a GPS disciplined generator or a DCF 77 generator?
@TonyAlbus
@TonyAlbus 3 года назад
Hello Marco, i think is does not matter to much, both are sending the atomic clock time, one by RF the other by GPS. Interesting though i dont remember seeing one for DCF .. i will try to find one. Nice question, Thanks

GPS: The high frequency and the phase modulation of the signal guarantee high noise immunity. It is difficult to simulate this signal. DCF77: Due to the low frequency and amplitude modulation the signal is liable to many interferences from atmospheric, magnetic and electric sources. It is easy to simulate the signal. GPS: With time decoding programme high short-term accuracy of ± 1 µsec. Good control characteristics free running crystals (standard ± 0.1 ppm). DCF77: Bad short-term accuracy, as a rule +5 to +25 msec, pretty bad characteristics for free-running crystals achievable ± 2 ppm. Seems GPS is Better

@@TonyAlbus Hi Tony, thanks for the information. I only bought a GPS 10MHz reference. I had noticed fluctuations in the frequency and thought it was the GPS generator. The device had a VCTCXO. Then I bought a device that works with DCF77. The device controls a 10MHz VCOCXO via a phase locked loop. I have also noticed fluctuations here. If you want to have the stabilizer you would have to average the result over 24 hours, but I don't need it that precisely. That's why I asked the question. Sincerely, Marco.

Wow some of those harmonics are quite large. I know my Marconi rejects anything a few hundred KHz so most gear should be fine.

Hi Simon, yes good equipment will have there own bandpass filter on the ext.ref input, so i think you usualy can get away with the cheaper distributer amp. still nice to see why you pay more for the 10MHz only and FDIS-5 .. its the filtering.

Hi.. Thank you so much for your GPS-DO videos. I purchased one for my “ham” bench just for extra educational purposes. (I had a CVA/stroke a while ago which left me with much of my memory and memories missing) So.. I’m re-learning everything involving my hobbies and previous career and have found your videos to be excellent. Thank you + 73 from the USofA

Sorry.. I totally forgot to ask the question I had initially visited this video to leave.. I’m currently using my BG7TBL GPS-DO for some of the test gear on my bench: Agilent HSA 9340B (7KHz to 6GHz w/TG) SA HP 8591 SA Rigol DSA-815 (w/TG) Rigol Oscilloscope DS 1054z Rigol Signal Generator Question…. I’m currently “swapping BNC cables” between these devices and the DO. How fussy is the GPS-DO to impedance? How fussy is EVERYTHING to impedance? I have a new / unused CATV video distribution amplifier. 1-995MHz I’m not sure of the amp specs, but I do know there is an add-on 8-port splitter packaged with it ( all “F” connectors) and it most probably is 75 ohms. Can I simply take the outputs of the included splitter and feed each piece of test gear with a piece of RG-400 with an “F” on the amp side and BNC on the test equipment side. And.. feeding the distribution amp directly from the GPS-DO 10MHz output..? Would it work temporarily? (Until I get a 50 ohms”proper” solution) Can it harm anything? Thank you!

@@PowderMill Wow! you have a very nice collection of gear. It is worth a try. maybe if you open the Amp you just see 75 Ohm in series in each line.. then you can replace those with 50 Ohm.. or you decide not to worry to much about it.. check the outputs of the amp with 50 Ohms to ground with a scope to see if the voltage is not to high. if you want a good clean signal you best go for the 10 MHz distributer with the bandfilter. Have fun!
