Replacing my Challenger steering box and when I pulled it off the rag joint (coupler) was not only in rough shape both shoes were split in half!! I bought a new rag joint and the internals from Tony D'Agostino. Super video by the way. Helping a lot!
Gravity is not going to hold the seal retainer. It will pop up and dirt and moisture will get in and destroy all of your good work. You need to work on that retainer and get it right. There is a spring clip that you can order that will hold the retainer down. You can install it with the column in the car.
So after all that you didn't use the supplied aftermarket clip to hold the cap on the unit. That wire clip was an upgrade to hold the cap on that you were complaining about the design of. Geesh.
