Love those old BSA's , such manly looking motorcycles. And the sound from those hemispherical combustion chambers and pea-shooter mufflers is just so cool. But all those vertical twins were paint-can-shakers on the highways!

Pea shooter are gold star exhaust s but all that aside I have heard loads of A65Ls this is sweetest one so far that model I'm it's day was.known.for 3things.being fast handling. Ok and being.not most.reliable to the extent name was acronym.for bastard stopped again.but.this.one.is.obviously cherished and maintained.accordingly that's a good one alright.

They should have kept that original style,,to save BSA . 1971 yr put them on the way to go under.

Starting a bike on the stand like that is not a good idea. Stands aren't designed for that sort of punishment.

Correct, Bad practice. My 250 Triumph Trophy (BSA B25 ) had a broken frame rail from being started while resting on the side stand.I have also seen numerous ruined / bent stands. As a result of doing this...next time the bike goes on the stand it leans too far and falls over... I can't figure out why on numerous clips people are starting their bikes on the stand . OIF BSA and Triumph frames are weak in the centre stand attachment area so don't start your bike on the centre stand either. I always put my stands up and stand astride to start. FYI my 67 650 Triumph Saint has a factory re-inforced centre stand. I believe the Police would sit on their bikes watching the traffic , start the bike on the centre stand ,put the bike in gear and rock the rear wheel down to hit the road and get away as quickly as they could . The rest of us should have both stands up and then kick the bike over !!

I see that comment a lot, but as a short and lightweight person I have to disagree. It's not only a good idea, but it keeps your ankle and foot from harm if the bike spits back. Not every one of those old motors were docile enough to start with just a gentle prod accompanied by some happy thoughts. Ever had your left leg fully extended on a down- kick only to have your knee instantly shoved back up to your waist? It only took one time to convince me not to kickstart ANY bike that way. I never saw a bent stand on the '68 and later bikes, although the front downtube separated from the headstock on my 69 Trophy 250 frame. But that was from jumping the bike, not leaning on the kickstand. If you have the coordination to balance the bike and kick, it's not a problem. And I'm sure it helped that I didn't weigh over 140 pounds , either. But my particular bike would spit back at times, and do so with enough force that would give anyone a memorable regret.

@@daveshegedin2576 In case of wet sump it could be bad practice. In this particular case (dry sump) this is not a problem.

Hi James. How is that relevant, please. I am confused here as I can't figure how you have gone from overly straining stands to wet/dry sump having some bearing on what is ok and what is not ????
