lou, to me, i believe this is when the majority of buick cars were built at their peak, never to be the same again. (my one man's opinion), i'm glad to see so many of these classics were saved, some of the best looking cars ever, to me! thanx!
Can't agree more. My Dad was a Buick guy from the mid 1950's and bought his last Buick in the early 90's, after his disgust with crap GM badge swapping and, as he stated many times, "It's not a Buick if it's not a v-8 and a Chevy drivetrain doesn't make it a Buick." He owned auto repair shops his entire life. The peak was absolutely 60-71 and then again in 79-89, with what their designers did with the B body, their reinvention of the Rivera was beyond a rebadge and the Grand National. The Reatta was their last effort of saving the brand but GM gave it no support, like they did to the under powered Fierro and other cars. It's sad. Buick is now an SUV company as their car brand was sacrificed by corporate lack of imagination. If it wasn't for name recognition in China, Buick would go the route of Olds and Pontiac. It's just wrong.
This Buick is fantastic! It's appropriate you featured the tail end first, because that's the view most other cars will see if Juan stomps the gas pedal! Thanks, Lou!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, High praise :-) "It's appropriate you featured the tail end first, because that's the view most other cars will see if Juan stomps the gas pedal!" NICE! You're welcome, Lou
Oh yeah, the epitome of the "sleeper" muscle car!!! No one expects a humble old Buick to blow them away at a traffic light, yeah this one would, and dispense a tissue for the looser, so great. Awesome car, awesome color!!! Really special Buick!!!
You're absolutely correct! that Aqua Mist is very striking. What a beautiful time capsule. Legend has it that Buick installed the "tissue dispenser" to dry the tears of the Buick owner after the HEMI cars beat them on the street. LOL GREAT VIDEO LOU.
What a beautiful Buick GS! That color looks awesome on that particular car. These cars are very rare, especially in as good of shape as this Buick. Definitely Sweet!
Wow! Beautiful rare Buick Stage I. Loved the color combo. "When better cars are built, Buick will build them" Old Buick slogan. Congratulations to the owner. Thnx to Lou.
All classic cars are a work of art..some are treated as such ..not put up on a wall ..but put up in a garage and trailered around ..I myself prefer to drive them and enjoy them ..but very smooth buick..

Very nice! GM really had it going with their intermediates in this era and the competition between divisions resulted in a wide variety awesome performance cars with Buick offering the 455 stage 1. Thanks for video, Lou, great way to start a Saturday morning.
The Stage 1 Buick has always been a sought after car for me.. a friend of mine has a GSX with the Stage 1 and a 4 speed and I have wanted one after the first time seeing it. Amazing cars !
In 1974, my dad, a Buick loyalist had a new 73 Riviera GS Stage 1. I wanted a new TRANS-AM SD, stick. I messed up on a promise & I had get a car for my school was quite far. His salesman found the perfect car that nobody wanted after the '73 oil embargo. A GS STAGE 1, 4spd. Brown w/black vinyl top & interior. I couldn't believe it had a bench seat & 4spd. It took me a while to like it, but, after hearing sum car techs,& racers tell me the AWESOME car it was, I began to not be embarrassed. 6ppl in the car, & it still kicked a$$. A/C comfort, big trunk, drive ins, beaches, long distance traveler, I finally was impressed. Wish I still had it today. When better cars are built, BUICK WILL BUILD EM!!!!

That is a fantastic Buick! The paint (including colour) and chrome trim are spectacular. The Buick intermediates were often under appreciated in my view. What a cool car! Thanks for bringing this classic to us Lou.
Lou, this was one of the few times you called for a kickdown and it actually happened! (I guess the engines are usually too cold to kick down right away).
Another great video Lou. Don't think that I have ever seen a Buick in that color before but I like it. My Uncle used to race in the 1960s and 1970s and he always told me that those 455 Buicks were hard to keep up with.
Hi PlymouthDuster225, Happy to share this color Buick with you. Thank you for sharing your Uncle has some fun 455 Buick stories too :-) Here is one more in this color for you. Enjoy, Lou ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VZ7zZLKmzO8.html
Hi, Lou! Given its premium high class image, Buick may not have seemed a likely candidate to build a muscle car that could beat the Hemis, but they set their sights high with the GS and this muscular Tri-Shield really does have it all! (It ought to for 5,100+ simoleons in 1970!) The 455 Stage 1, all those other accessories, and that highly polished, striking and magnetic Aqua Mist paint job! Just...WOW! BTW, seeing that 1962 Dodge Dart wagon in the background was a nice bonus! Thanks to you and Juan for another great episode!
Yeah Brother, another BEAUTIFUL car. Buick, like Pontiac, was such a solidly built car back in the day with the perfect blend of style AND performance. The only sad part is knowing that the dismal days of these cars were right around the corner. We still have these today and let's enjoy!
Absolutely love them Buick's!!!! Especially that 455 stage 1. I had an Electra with the 455 an with few modifications it would eat Cameros or Mustangs. Crazy great engineering in that 455. A nice bit of HP and neck jerking torque 💕💕💕
In college in the 70's, I owned a '72 Gran Sport convertible, medium green with a white top and dark green interior. Great a/c that even here in TX kept me cool in summer and warm in winter, top was amazingly weatherproof, a little cowl shake, but beautifully made, quiet and very fast. Certainly not economical, but with gas at a quarter a gallon, who cared? GM hit a real home run with these '65 to '72 intermediates, only to fail with the bloated, overweight, overwrought '73+ creations.

@@loucostabile you are bringing me back to my youth! Back in the day, I had 2 1969 Buick Skylarks and a 72 Skylark as well. Quick story. My 1st 69, my dad had just replaced the transmission. The car had 50,000 miles on it and, mind you, this was in 1979. I get into an accident with it. It was totaled, bent frame. Engine, tranny still good. So, I searched the local classifieds and find a mint condition 69 Skylark with a blown motor. So what does this 20 year old car enthusiast do? A power train swap. Oh was that great. Still wish I had it. Unfortunately, it was stolen after about a year. My father said "don't put those Buick mag wheels on. They'll steal it from you". I should've listened. Thanks again for a cool channel!
Goodday Lou, The so called Hemi Slayer, 1970 Buick GS Stage 1. Just a quick story. Over a year ago my mechanic out of all cars had a Buick GSX Stage 1, Apollo White with a 4 speed on his hoist doing a roadworthy inspection. I was absolutely blown away literally a genuine 1970 Buick GSX numbers matching Stage 1 on the hoist here in Melbourne Australia, it would have to be the only 1 in Australia. Apparently the owner didn't want anyone to know about till I came along. Spread the news on the grapevine how super rare these cars are, photography it but my mechanic wouldn't take me as a passenger or give me the number of his customer. This Buick was stunning. But the colour on this 1 is amazing and the idle sounds definitely LS6 slayer not sure on the Hemi Killer. Your number 1 Fan in Australia Louis Kats from Melbourne Australia ☺ 👍 ❤
Louis did it have a brown vinyl roof, saw a coronet gold car down here 80s and GSX stage 1 they were original factory cars, that's when I fell in love theses cars.only one problem the blocks were beefy enough for those engine s

The 1970 shade of aqua is nice, not too bright and not too dark, and with a decent amount (but not too much) metallic. I like the color because it really brings out the surface detailing of the car, and the 70 GS has great surface detailing to bring out!
Probably the best looking GM muscle car ever! And debatably the best or in the top 3 of GM engines ever produced as well. If you wonder why there are so few of these cars, just take a gander at the bottom line on that sticker, at over 5 grand this car was into Caddy country! My 1970 GT-37 with a 400 was around $3400 - but is a low option car. Another amazing piece - Pretty much a museum piece.
Thanks…interesting, what all was your *& how was the buying, your GT-?? Interestingly, my first new CAR PURCHASE WAS : a AUGUST 1970 also, Dodge Coronet 500/383 TURQUOISE** ENGine/ps/PB/ DELUXE BLACK INTERIOR/*Hubcaps/ BELTED TIRES DELUXE/ Black Vinyl Top/ am Radio (?) “”, @ the DODGE DEALER NEXT door to my Pharmacy where i worked @ $3100 full delivered Price. I never did see the Sticker.. Anyways, my wife had to drive a lot to finish School, etc and this was reasonable :** I would have preferred a GTO JUDge/ Buick Stage/ TALLADEGA**/SUPER BEE /RT, LOADED, but time and finances dictated this” good Value” @ Neighbors Dealership……the other GM/models seemed to be couple thousand $$ more, esp, the one
And, I,had seen a ***SUPERBIRD , at downtown Lafayette Indiana and it was to lomg , racaous, $$$ pricey ( later, some dealers redone the nose/ trunk wing , to sell)& at least the HEMI S WERE $2000 more, etc.
Such a beautiful colour! I had one of these in the late 70’s, in a pale yellow (I don’t know what they called that colour in 1970) I’ve never seen one in this shade before! Love the black roof! I loved my GS and it was a rare departure for me as my heart was owned by Mopar at the time. But this Buick was the fastest of any of my old, used, muscle cars I had between 1974 and 2000! I was away for a bit and haven’t seen a vid from Lou in weeks, but I’m about to binge on what I’ve missed. Thanks, Lou!
Hey Lou! I hope this finds you great, big bro. And maybe still at that awesome muscle car show :). Wow-just a cornucopia of American awesomeness with these cars, Lou! She is a beauty in that Aqua Mist with that black top and black interior. Badass combo. I know I say it often-but the character of these cars is just so apparent, and so awesome. Not just the epic engines and swooping and clean lines and chrome trim, but the shifter and even a tissue holder (!)-sweating the details and caring about the fact that this is someone's baby. That Camaro video I checked out yesterday left me stunned, in my stocking, chick crazy feet lol ;)-I hope you got my response to that one. Thanks Lou!! :) JV Johnny
Hey JV Johnny, Happy to read you enjoy this car. Yes, there will be more coming from the Muscle Car & Corvette Nationals. Enjoy reading the details you see, Lou
I love these Buicks. My uncle had a 70 or 71 not the GS, but the 350 Skylark and I loved that car. My dad was driving a 75 Duster with the 225 slant six, so you know I was jealous. I loved the Duster too but in a different way. First car I ever steered with my dad on the pedals when I couldn't reach them. But I thought the Buick was such a cool car with my uncle doing burnouts.

What a fantastic car! (that color!) It amazes me still to hear that lumpy cam that came from the factory. If you were next to it at a stop light and heard that idle, you knew it was nothing to be trifled with. Thanks

Stunning and along with Oldsmobile the only true classy Hot Rods or the gentleman's Hot Rod. Never had the privilege of owning a Buick GS but I did own a 1970 442 and with either you could go fast with class. I love this Buick.
Back in the late 70's we had one of these come in the shop with a rod knock. I rebuilt the engine to all stock factory specs. It ran really strong, I was really impressed
@@loucostabile Yeah, back in the day we had a lot of cool cars come in the shop. 440 six packs, a 340 six pack cuda,, Lots of big block camaros and chevelles, a Jag XKE, even a Yenko 427 nova, But that GSX had to be one of my favorites. Maybe because I wasn't expecting much from a Buick Skylark? But it was a pleasant surprise
Great car !! I love the window sticker with the $9k plus price tag. A pretty good amount of money then. I met a guy in the mid '70s thru another friend because i played guitar. Hung out and played together for years. His first car was a blue '64 Skylark with a V6 that sadly got wrecked. Next car was a '72 Skylark with a 350, also blue and it got wrecked, too (he nearly died). Thing is, all thru this, his favorite car was A '70 GS Stage 1 455.. Great to see an example like this. It's beautiful ! He stayed with Buick, getting bigger cars like 225's ('72 and '68). Lifer.

I own a 69 GS400. I have the original 400 but have a '70 455 motor with heavily ported heads and it is a stout beast. Lou, you need to plan to hit the GS Nationals next year in Bowling Green Kentucky.
...Juan clearly cherishes his VERY rare Aqua Mist Skylark GS Stage...the big dog in Buick's luxury performance stable... ...these models always had a great combination of "grrrrowl and glitz".... ...most of my motorhead friends of the day were all consumed with Mustangs, Camaros, GTO's and Olds 4-4-2's and the Buick just lurked in the background like the cultivated jock who dated smart girls, while his brawling buddies jostled to attract the pretty blonde and buxom cheerleaders... ...and, hate to say it, but even that cultivated jock would NEVER opt for a tissue dispenser....ever... ...nice pick, as usual, Lou... ...Horsepower Holidays, buddy!!
Lou, that is one bad boy for sure. The color is striking. I'll write a check for full retail on this one LOL. Another great find and as usual and I love the "trunk and treats. I just don't understand how the owner doesn't drive it more?? Thanks, Lou.

My Oldest Sister Kelly her Boyfriend had a Car like this one same thing It was really Beautiful His was a Darker Blue and it was same year. and that baby could move .
This is the Ultimate Buick! Before they got government mandated emissions, ugly 5 MPH bumpers etc. this car is the real deal and they come no better than this one! Right options! Right color! None could be any nicer! Enough said!
