1970 Chevy Monte Carlo - Built by General . Motors to be used for promoting the all new 1970 Monte Carlo for the new car show circuit in 1970. The body raises off the frame, the front section of the frame rotates around while the engine, transmission, and tires all rotate. incredible exhibition piece ! still wows the crowd today, imagine what it must have been like seeing it back then in 1970. the 70 Monte Carlo is one gorgeous vehicle btw. a favorite of mine, I have always called the Monte Carlo of that era the gentleman's muscle car.

Great display. I remember the GM display at the Steel Pier in Atlantic City when I was a kid in the early 50's. Every division had a display like this.

It was broke down when I was at the show, that display was the best thing at the 2018 Cleveland auto show.

How much of a discount do you get if you want to buy a car?

I am 67 and all I have ever owned/driven is a 1st Gen Monte Carlo.... I have 3 of them now, got rid of my 4th one I purchased in '75 just last summer..... I live in apartments, and they sit in the parking lot, so they have to run and be current on street legal, folks... so not junk yard cars, but then again, depends on who you ask. Most everyone thinks they have computer stuff on them, thus breaking down all the time.

that's pretty cool! almost as cool as the one cadillac that had the drop down spare tire that would lift the back end of the car and could move it laterally for parking in tight spots.

I recently heard that the monte carlo was designed to be front wheel drive and that's why the nose is soooooo long .And there was also plans for convertible models with re enforced frames like completely boxed design. But the strike in 1969 70 changed everything. Can you imagine a front wheel drive Chevrolet with a 454 ? And converable to boot ? The sad thing is that you will never know exactly what a built by hands car will ever be like again. The creative engineering was good but the craftsmanship was great. Now cars are made not built .And look at the shape GM is in. Heading for bankruptcy yet again. I ain't bailing their asses out and neither should the government. Sink or swim is the normal structure that you and I are forced to live in ,why do the rules change for them ?

Completely agree. I used to be a fan of GM. They've completely lost their way.

the mc was modeled after the cadillac eldorado which was front wheel drive with up to the 500 CI engine.

This was on display at the New Vehicle Car Show - IX Center in Cleveland, Ohio. I believe it is part of the Crawford Auto Museum.
