There are less every year, I am like George, its actually more efficient to do it in metal. Argue with shop owner all the time. Had my own shop glory days! We are all getting old now. Thanks for the appreciation!

This is the only way we do them as well. The way I was taught and expect the same out of my helpers. And teaching them the trade so it don’t die
@peteloomis8456
@peteloomis8456 Год назад
@@metalartcustomsLLC My buddy is a body guy and he was a body shop teacher at the university of Eau Claire Wisconsin teaching kids how to do body work and welding and he said that out of the class only maybe 2 would actually be able to go work at a body shop and actually had the ambition to do it while the others just to not really care about even doing it and that's why there aren't that many of the body shops doing restorations now because they or most of them only want to do collision work on new clean rust free cars and trucks so this stuff here we see in the video is becoming a lost art in ways . Me and my buddy just finished up a 69 Road Runner after 4 years of working on it and now we have a 67 Mercury Cougar that's on the rotisserie that's in color now but he used a pan and brake to make steel sheet metal roof extensions to make the cougar look like a fastback because he didn't like the way Mercury designed the rear of the roof that just didn't seem to match the rest of the body and now the body has paint on it those roof extensions to make it look like a fastback really improved the looks of the car although I'm sure some of the cougar freaks won't like it .

This guy seems a lot easier to work with than the 69 Charger 500 guy. 10 to 1, Nick interviewed this guy last time but went with the other. He got it right this time. I also think this car will be finished much quicker.

Those chargers are so Iconic it’s incredible. After all these years that body style looks so good. I wonder if the people who designed it could have predicted that this body would still be so attractive 50+ years later?

@peteloomis8456
@peteloomis8456 Год назад
Sure they did because back then and even further back in the 20s 30s and 40s you had cars like the Pierce arrow , Packard , Graham Cord and others that had some of the best body designers around that used those classic elegant timeless lines that were ahead of it's time even then known as the Olympian cars in fact there was a book out some years ago called the Olympian cars which I have one from when I worked at Classic Auto in the 90s where I got to work on some of those beautiful old cars as well as muscle cars and hot rods being we were sponsored by the MSRA or Minnesota street rod association and had quite a few people bringing their cars in to us to have work done on them from minor stuff to full engine rebuilds and body restorations being we also had a body shop . I have a soft spot for the 70 chargers because a friend of mine had one that he fixed up doing the bodywork on it because he worked for a body shop and the body was done and blocked in primer but he had started drinking early in the day and I went with him later to go to his girlfriends house because she was having a party but on the way to the place when I left with him he decided to stop and punch the 440 and smoked the back tires and he decides to crank the steering wheel hard left at about 50 MPH and the left front tire and keystone rim dug into the tar causing the car to flip on his side landing upsidedown on it's roof blowing the rear back window out and us being showered with glass . His left hand was still on the steering wheel and the front left roof pillar was smashed down on his hand and I had to while upside down pull the steering wheel down so he could get his hand out and he got lucky it didn't crush his hand but did cut it and he had glass imbedded in his hand so it was bleeding . Once ou the car was actually still running then quit but those rear flip open gas caps they used that look like something from a jet fighter was leaking gasoline all over the road so we got lucky the car didn't burst into flames . Some guy up the road was in his garden and had seen it happen I remember and could hear him yelling to his wife to call the police who did show up and my buddy some how didn't get a DWI amazingly . By that time one of our friends who lived nearby heard the noise and showed up and then went home to grab a chain to flip the car over and tow it to my friends girlfriends house that day lol . The next day we checked fluids on the car and got it running again so I followed him back to his place and that same guy who called the police was out in his garden again and my friend went by him doing well over 100 MPH with the roof smashed down on the driver's side and the look on this guy's face was priceless lol . It sucked because all the car needed was paint but after that he sold the car and parts off of it went into another friends 69 Dodge super bee mainly the interior stuff and the power windows and dash being it had the tic toc tach and 150 mph speedometer and wood grain dash bezels so it jazzed his super bee's interior up . So long story short don't drink and drive !

The original designer actually passed away about a year ago, when they mocked up the first one it was actually rejected by the top design boss at Chrysler back then, he told them to get rid of it and he wanted it gone by the time he got back from vacation. They went over that guys head to a higher up that approved it, but there was always bad blood and the original designer quit and left automotive all together. A bunch of other people took credit for it too, he was right to be mad.

Back in the day I grafted two 1967 GT Mustangs together I bought one that was wrecked in the front and one that was wrecked in the back cut save the roof line cut it near the back seat and slip the panel in I was under that car for 3 weeks trying to get rid of any waves or bubbles on the subframes on the floor pans I've grafted in metal before but never to that extent so kudos to you George you're doing an excellent job sir and Nick keep on keeping on with this great content I love to see Craftsman doing their jobs

Nick, you and I are about the same age. These were so well needed back in the day. I have to admit, I couldn't afford one so I became very good doing tune-ups by ear. I still can. Give me a motor with a set of points, and it will only turn over a halve a turn and be running. I now own a dwell gauge and it does come in handy as my hearing is starting to go, great present, and from Snap-on, you know that wasn't a cheap one!!! Congratulations Nick!!!

I believe that panel beneath the deck filler was for housing the rear window defroster on cars so equipped..it also has a structural significance to silence the deck filler from vibration cause face it, chargers had huge panels, coupled with a big block makes for metal noise, especially one that Nick built! Yes when you live in the southern or an eastern part of the USA the heat plus the humidity is truly miserable for 3 months of the year every day. Now in a older car you did have floor vents and Wing windows which helped a lot but in a modern car you almost have to have air conditioning which most cars still come with air conditioning if they're sold in the south

The mystery piece is a deck filler panel lower plenum. It's a part often fitted the 68-70 Dodge Charger at the factory. It is designed to simply fill the gap between the lower plenum and the deck lid, providing a smooth and finished appearance. It seems as though Dodge added this for cosmetic purposes only. Repop plenum filler panels are available for around $200 - $300 (US) [as of 2022]
